Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs:

  • Coordinates academic advising at IU Northwest.
  • Manages and supervises the Student Advising Center, providing the highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define academic advising methodologies and standards for the campus.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to promotion or performance management of supervisees.
  • Develops and maintains supportive advising systems for special populations of students including those on academic probation, readmits to the university, exploratory students, etc, as well as professional development programming for all academic advisors (professional and faculty).
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of academic advising resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams.
  • Coordinates large-scale academic advising projects with a wide audiences in support of academic initiatives (for ex. the IU early alert efforts, re-enrollment campaigns, etc.).
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees. Acts as an advisor to executive committees. Serves on various IUN and IU committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to academic advising.
  • Designs and implements an assessment program to allow for continuous improvement of advising processes across campus.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry academic advising standards, technologies, policies, and procedures. Responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address campus needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other academic advising leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in counseling or a related field and four years of experience in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, or a related field, with one year of management experience or demonstrated leadership of a project or people.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
