Position Summary

The Access Services Librarian provides leadership and strategic visioning for the University Libraries' Access Services Department, which manages building access during all operating hours and provides the following services: circulation; resource sharing including interlibrary loan and document delivery; course reserves; and stacks maintenance. The Access Services Department is supported by 12 benefitted staff, including five unit supervisors, and up to 50 student staff. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty librarian position (non-tenure track) with administrative and supervisory responsibilities. The position reports to the currently vacant Associate Dean for Student and Scholar Services. Until that position is filled, the Access Services Librarian will report to the Interim Associate Dean for Student and Scholar Services.

In this highly collaborative role, the librarian will work with the Access Services Manager, Access Services unit supervisors and staff, and the Associate Dean for Student and Scholar Services to assist with the development and implementation of library strategies, policies, and procedures for the delivery of services, configuration and maintenance of relevant library systems, provision of access to library resources, and maintenance of a welcoming environment for all patrons in support of the mission and goals of the library and university. The person in this position is expected to research trends in library access services and recommend new approaches to patron services and offerings in coordination with other public service librarians and building service partners.

The Access Services Librarian coordinates service changes and policy updates with the managers of other campus libraries (Bonfils-Stanton Music Library, Westminster Law Library, Iliff School of Theology Ira J. Taylor Library) and represents the University of Denver Libraries in various resource sharing consortia (Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries, Greater Western Library Alliance, etc.). As the Lending Desk serves as the main contact point for visitors to the Anderson Academic Commons, the person in this position also assists the Libraries' Dean's Office in monitoring building usage, setting building hours, alerting the appropriate authorities to any safety concerns, and helping with emergency procedures.

As a member of the University Libraries Faculty, the Access Services Librarian will work in accord with the promotion guidelines and actively engage in scholarly activities through research and publication and participate in professional organizations, as well as library and campus committees. Funding and support will be provided to engage professionally at the regional and national level.
