JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for teaching one Introduction to Glass course, and providing 20-25 hours a week of student monitoring and instructional support in the Glass Studios. The candidate will also have access to the glass studio facilities (which include furnaces, annealers, fusing and casting kilns, benches, lathe, lapidary wheels and belt sander) to create their personal work (outside of student lab times), and a Gallery Show or installation during summer 2023 in the Kirkwood Iowa Hall Art Gallery. Lead- regardless of title, through positive influence.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide effective instruction in the Introduction to Glass course including creating the syllabus, course schedule, and ensuring that students meet required class outcomes.
  • Provide instructional support to students working in the glass studio spaces during scheduled student times. This includes answering questions, providing guidance, and ensuring safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Collaborate with the full-time glass faculty member on supporting student needs, and with the 3D studio technician on equipment maintenance and safety measures.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

    • Ability to work efficiently with the full-time glass faculty member, ceramics faculty, and studio technicians.
    • Ability to instruct students in the art of glass- hot, warm, and cold working techniques.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Provide a positive and collaborative learning environment for students.

    Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    MA or MFA in Glass, or related area with significant glass experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Experience in an education setting is preferred
  • Experience in implementing and ensuring safety standards are met.
