Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). DUTIES:
Explain and interpret policy and procedure regarding the agency pre-employment medical tests/exams, to include establishing protocols and processes for medical exams and all employee drug screens. Plan, organize and review all medical test results for compliance with agency medical standards; ensure compliance with ACA standards. Serve as the agency contact with medical vendors for resolving issues; act independently upon receipt of positive medical results, authorize re-testing if necessary. Coordinate and implement the annual TB testing program for all health services employees at all NDCS facilities, to include establishing protocols and processes. Act as agency HR expert for all requests for proposals (RFP)/bid renewals for employee medical services. Manage the agency voluntary HEP B inoculations process, ensuring vaccination is administered. Act as records manager for all employee medical files, which includes: modifying current protocols; review and recommend modifications to policies and procedures regarding medical testing, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. Oversee the Agency Tuition Assistance Program; provide administrative support to the agency assistant HR administrator and HR managers in areas of classification, grievances, etc. Travel to all NDCS facilities as needed within the job requirements.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: At least one year of post high school coursework or experience in: administration, office management, accounting, finance, planning, policy analysis and implementation, administrative/management analysis, operations research, program evaluation, research, or similar fields or in a field related to the programs or functions of the employing agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum two years' experience serving as administrative/professional support to management. Experience developing policy, procedures and protocols; creating statistical reports; researching and drafting written correspondence; and handling and/or disseminating sensitive/confidential information. Extensive, diverse experience using Word, Excel and Outlook.

Other: Must have a valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly unannounced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Self-starter, highly organized, detail oriented. Takes initiative. Ability to problem solve. Demonstrated experience in developing spreadsheets, forms, template letters. Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include generating mail merge documents. Ability to work under pressure and have good interpersonal skills. Effective communication skills to organize and present material effectively, concisely and accurately. Ability to independently prioritize work, organize time, meet deadlines and multi-task.
