Job Description

General Motors Creative Design is seeking a Launch Lead for the Appearance Quality team. In this position, you will be the last line of defense for multiple vehicle and mobility programs, ensuring that appearance and aesthetic design intent is in line with GM standards for color, grain, gloss and overall quality of appearance for production parts and the product as a whole. You will provide leadership and mentorship in the successful evaluation of these parts and vehicles to GM standards. You will work closely with internal customers and external suppliers to achieve overall vehicle harmony. You will supervise daily activities of others and interact frequently and independently with cross-functional team members and suppliers. You must act with urgency to manage various appearance activities vital for meeting deadlines. We need someone who will be confident in their judgement and who is willing to be a strong voice for Creative Design with our manufacturing partners and suppliers.

In this role you will:

  • Evaluate Production Parts for compliance to GM Masters and Standards for Color / Grain / Gloss and overall quality appearance
  • Coordinate & Conduct Interior and Exterior Vehicle Appearance Harmony Reviews (color/grain/gloss) in Warren and at the Vehicle Assembly Plants
  • Document Program Status of Appearance Approval Reports (AAR's) and Vehicle Harmony
  • Work with Suppliers, GM Engineering and Supplier Quality to resolve Color, Gloss and overall appearances issues identified during the reviews for PPAP Appearance Approval (AAR submissions) and Vehicle Harmony
  • Travel as required - moderate (more around Program Launch Timing)
  • Have a sense of urgency to manage appearance activities to meet required dates
  • Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Coordinate and consult with departments outside Appearance Quality, such as engineering, manufacturing, Supplier Quality and Program Quality.
  • Actively participate in improving processes, identifying inefficiencies and drives process change
  • Support Globalization of Appearance Harmony Process

    Qualifications
    • Must pass Color Discrimination Test (Munsell-Farnsworth) with a score of < 16
    • Experienced in the areas of color/grain/gloss & overall vehicle harmony for conformance to appearance requirements.
    • Knowledge of materials/paints/manufacturing processes and their appearance attributes
    • High level of written and oral communication skills, especially in the language of color/grain/gloss
    • Self-motivated, Pro-Active, and a Decision Maker
    • Good Organizational Skills
    • Ability to create and deliver effective presentations to Management, with Managerial Courage.
    • Demonstrates high level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
    • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering - especially MS Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Bachelor's Degree or commensurate experience with fields of study such as Materials, Chemical, Manufacturing and Business Management
