The University of Virginia seeks a driven, innovative, and team-oriented Apprenticeship Program Manager to join the Facilities Management (FM) department in growing skilled talent and shaping future leaders. The Apprenticeship Program Manager leads and administers a best-in-class program, the first public agency in the Commonwealth with a registered apprenticeship program, founded in 1982. The Apprenticeship Program Manager will collaborate closely with stakeholders across FM to support the continuous strive for service excellence. The incumbent will also supervise the Apprenticeship Instructor who oversees the delivery of NCCER curriculum to apprentices. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the administrative elements required, overseeing the compliance of the program with federal, state, and local apprenticeship regulations, to include the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, Apprenticeship Division.

The Apprenticeship Program Manager is instrumental in creating a regenerative pipeline of trades people responsible for stewarding the historical Grounds of the University of Virginia and supporting critical care services provided by the UVA Health System. A critical team member within the organization, this position is part of Facilities Management-Occupational Programs (FM-OP), a composition of support services that are directly related to employees' career enrichment and personal and professional well-being. The four core programs of this composition are FM Apprenticeship, Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Training, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Facilities Management supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, maintains, and implements strategic goals for apprenticeship program development.

    • Identifies the best approach to achieve both short- and long-term program goals.

    • Develops and proposes effective programs and executes the overall operation of the division.

    • Maintains awareness of national best practices through research, webinars, peer programs, and training.

  • Internal business operations:

    • Consults and partners with FM departments to effectively analyze and prioritize organizational workforce needs.

    • Works collaboratively with supervisors, on-the-job trainers, instructors, Human Resources Business Partners, and FM-Leadership to provide a program that continues to meet business needs.

    • Performs gap analyses to inform the creation of quality programs, and materials.

  • Community collaboration/partnerships:

    • Researches, develops, and implements regional, state, and national collaborations to include partnerships, proactive outreach, communications, marketing strategies and collateral materials to benefit apprenticeship program.

    • Coordinate on and off-site outreach efforts with institutional, community, and corporate partners and participants to ensure proactive communication, community engagement, and assistance in developing marketing strategies for initiatives in alignment with workforce needs.

  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required, additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • At least four years of related experience.

  • Experience with responsibility for multi-functional Apprenticeship programs, workforce development or career development strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in handling multiple priorities, project management and meeting deadlines, and strong planning and organizational skills in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.

  • Success in self-directed positions and skill in working across various divisions and levels within an organization to identify and support program needs.

  • Experience with building collaborative cross sector partnerships

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively supervise, coach, train, and positively influence employees.

  • High level of proficiency and literacy in using Microsoft Office Suite, similar products and other technology solutions.

  • Technical education or apprenticeship experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities demonstrated by successful candidate:

  • Interpersonal Savvy with proven ability to develop productive relationships, motivating and developing others who are not direct reports to move toward common goals and outcomes.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to positively interact with diverse and varied audiences including, but not limited to executives, management, trades and administrative team members, community and industry representatives, and job seekers who may represent underserved populations or experience barriers to employment.

  • Adaptable to adjust activities to respond to changing circumstances and priorities to meet goals, proactively address issues as they arise and mitigate risks associated to events.

Anticipated Hiring Range begins at $80,000, offered salary commensurate with education and experience.
