The Assistant Dean for Finance and Resource Planning serves as the chief financial officer for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, providing oversight for budgeting and long-range planning of resources in the college.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the largest college at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has an extensive portfolio of research, teaching, service, and public engagement. It is home to over 12,000 undergraduate students and 2,600 graduate students. Working alongside these students are almost 1,900 dedicated faculty and staff members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as Chief Financial Officer of the college, responsible for fiscal management and control of college funds including state and federal appropriations, grants, contracts, gifts, indirect cost recovery, and self-supporting funds.
  • Serve as primary resource for stewardship and management of resources. Work with the dean to develop approaches to resource challenges and to optimizing resources.
  • Work with the dean to develop and implement options in financial decision-making.
  • Provide leadership and advice in the development and implementation of financial policies.
  • Provide leadership and advice in the implementation of long-range financial planning.
  • Develop and maintain tools for budgeting and planning of college resources.
  • Steward the resources of the college in a responsible manner.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the budget management of LAS Administration and all units of the College.
  • Guide unit leaders in understanding financial reports.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of personnel throughout the college who handle budget and human resource matters.
  • Guide the operation of the LAS Service Center and supervise college budget and HR team members.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact with the Office of the Provost on budgetary matters.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact with University Audits team.
  • Represent the college on a range of campus committees and leadership groups.
  • Develop financial reports and analyses to assist in financial management (e.g., deficit reports, periodic budget reports).
  • Develop the annual budget for units within the College.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least eight years of experience in higher education administration in budgeting and financial planning.
  • Experience as a supervisor.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree.
  • A degree in business or higher education administration.
  • At least five years of experience in human resource management.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
