Position Focus:
Reporting to the dean of student affairs, and working closely with colleagues throughout the university, the assistant dean provides leadership on gender issues, social life, a respectful and inclusive campus culture and alcohol and other drug harm reduction initiatives. The assistant dean leads the development of policies, procedures and training for students, staff and faculty.

Essential Duties:
1. Lead and direct two interlocking offices—the Office of Gender and Campus Culture and the Alcohol and Other Drugs Harm Reduction Initiative—to provide excellent support of students, programs, staff and faculty. The dean is charged with creating a positive campus culture through community education and environmental strategies. 2. Maintain and develop policies, procedures, programs and training to (a) address gender issues on campus with a particular focus on reducing the incidence and impact of sexual misconduct and (b) reduce the harms of alcohol and other drug use. Focus on creating mindful, inclusive cultures with awareness of and support for a diverse group of students. 3. Oversee and develop programs, interventions, training and services on sexual misconduct, including a range of mandated trainings for all undergraduates and specialized training for groups including new students, student leaders, and varsity athletes. 4. Provide expert consultation and training as requested to residential college staff and other members of the YCDO, as well as to representatives of the Title IX Office, Office of General Counsel, Office of Legislative Affairs, University-Wide Committee on Sexual Misconduct, Yale Police Department, Athletics, Schwarzman Center, SHARE, Yale Health, YPD, student advisory boards and groups on rapidly-changing regulatory and cultural environment. 5. Hire, supervise and train professional staff, Student Affairs Fellows and a large cohort of student peer educators. 6. Understand issues around faculty sexual harassment and gender bias and make recommendations regarding training and processes. Support the Title IX Office in setting policies and developing training to reduce vulnerability of students, staff, and junior faculty. 7. Maintain a data-driven, research-informed, and evidence-based approach. Review and conduct research on sexual violence prevention, AOD harm-reduction, and culture change. Engage in data collection, survey development and data analyses and reporting. 8. Serve as the staff advisor for the Women’s Center and serve as the liaison between Yale College and the Women’s Center. Work collaboratively with members of the administration and the Center. Provide budget oversight of Center. 9. Respond to student life issues on an on-going basis, including managing of crises around sexual misconduct and AOD medical emergencies. 10. Develop a long-term plan regarding gender issues in undergraduate life. Consult with members of Yale College community and serve as a resource for gender issues in the college. Coordinate activities and planning with other relevant units (e.g., Yale Health, Athletics, OISS, WFF, Chaplain’s Office). 11. Oversee programs in Yale College and the University, serve on committees, chair committees, and manage special projects. As conditions change, take on other duties and responsibilities.

Required Education and Experience:
1. Master's degree in a related discipline and one year of experience in academic administration or management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in public health approaches to sexual misconduct prevention and alcohol and other drug harm reduction initiatives. 3. Experience in program development, education and outreach efforts, and staff training. 4. Experience in student life in a highly-selective, liberal arts environment.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated counseling skills. A strong understanding of best practices in student affairs (e.g., NASPA, ACPA, NODA, ASCA). Appreciation and respect for principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ability to engage with diverse individuals (age, gender, nationality, race/ethnicity, profession, sexual orientation, etc.).

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Demonstrated ability to create and sustain an environment of mutual respect and tolerance that supports a responsible, inclusive community. Demonstrated track record of generating and encouraging creative ideas, innovative thinking, and imaginative solutions to problems. Willingness to seek out and utilize the views of others.

Advanced degree (Ph.D., Ed.D.) .
