About the Department:

SMU's Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering, founded in 1925, is one of the oldest engineering schools in the Southwest. The school offers eight undergraduate and 29 graduate programs, including master's and doctoral degrees, through the departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Operations Research and Engineering Management. Lyle students participate in programs in the unique Deason Innovation Gym, providing the tools and space to work on immersion design projects and competitions to accelerate leadership development and the framework for innovation; the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership, helping students develop nontechnical skills to prepare them for leadership in diverse technical fields; the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education, developing new methodologies for incorporating engineering education into K-12 schools; and the Hunter and Stephanie Hunt Institute for Engineering and Humanity, combining technological innovation with business expertise to address global poverty.

About the Position:

SMU's Lyle School of Engineering, is seeking an Assistant Director 2 for Graduate Recruitment on a global stage. This position reports to the Director of Recruiting and is responsible for generating revenue through developing and nurturing a potential student contact list, guiding potential Lyle students to enrollment. The Assistant Director 2 will establish new business contacts to promote masters and doctoral programs. The Assistant Director 2 will work with marketing and faculty to enhance the offering and experience of Lyle graduate degree programs. In addition, this position is responsible for international graduate recruitment through various travel and international recruitment software.

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies new international target markets to recruit populations outside the United States to the Lyle School of Engineering. Provides reporting metrics and data to Dean's office in order to track enrollment trends in various international regions.
  • Meets with prospective students via Skype, Zoom and international recruitment software platforms like College Week Live.
  • Follows up with existing students to aid in retention and student success, and to create a network of champions to aid in Recruitment.
  • Performs lead generation, lead responses, follow-up and pre-application advising. Works with marketing and faculty to comprehend existing offerings and feed-back inputs for continuous improvement of Lyle's program offerings.
  • Performs administrative reporting to include metric and data analysis, updating databases, provides program administration management, and other administrative work.
  • Travels internationally to recruit prospective students.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours are required.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred.

Three years' professional work experience is required. Experience conducting effective presentations is required. Experience in global sales and/or college/university recruiting or admissions is preferred. Prior experience working with college students is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. The ability to create error free communication using proper grammar and spelling is essential.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must have the ability to create and cultivate networks in support of recruitment.

Candidate must be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, potential students and international contacts.

Candidate must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, database programs and CRM platforms.
