Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director is a key contributing member of the team responsible for raising immediate impact gifts for The Wellesley Fund and growing overall alumnae participation rates for the College.

The Assistant Director recruits, manages, trains and supports class volunteers (Wellesley Fund Representatives and Assistant Representatives) for the five most recent graduating classes. The Assistant Director solicits members of the five most recent graduating classes not covered by volunteers and participates in end of fiscal year solicitation efforts with non-donors from those classes. They participate in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies and the creation of digital assets to assist the alumnae volunteers in reaching their class revenue goals for The Wellesley Fund.
The Assistant Director will lead the Senior Class Gift fundraising effort and is responsible for building The Wellesley Fund Student Ambassadors program to aid in the implementation of digital appeal projects. This includes developing compelling messaging, defining effective segmentation and pool management, building philanthropic awareness, and generating immediate impact revenue for The Wellesley Fund.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages and motivates Wellesley Fund Representatives and Assistant Representatives from the five most recent graduating classes to raise immediate impact gifts and increase alumnae donor count from this cohort.
  • Works closely with alumnae class fundraising volunteers and trains them to be successful in their efforts on behalf of the College.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, especially in regard to identifying and coordinating the recruitment and solicitation of potential class fundraising volunteers.
  • Leads, in collaboration with colleagues in the Alumnae Association, the management of the Senior Class Gift program including recruitment and training of committee members, goal setting, and campus-wide development and implementation.
  • Develops and implements The Wellesley Fund Student Ambassadors Program which will incorporate both fundraising and philanthropy education components. The Assistant Director will play an integral role in developing a digital appeal channel, as well as participating in standard solicitation channels.
  • Participates in key alumnae-focused events such as the annual volunteer leadership weekend, commencement, and reunion.

  • Achieve dollar and participation goals within established budget and timeframe.
  • Ensure Wellesley Fund volunteers achieve their fundraising goals.
  • Productive and collegial collaboration with colleagues across the Development Office, counterparts in the WCAA, and across the College.
  • Approaches responsibilities with enthusiasm, an orientation toward customer service, and with an awareness of fundraising needs and goals.
  • A leader, motivator, and champion of student and alumnae fundraising
Supervises:
  • 10-15 Student employees
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)
Experience Required:
  • 1-3 years of fundraising experience, ideally within higher education. Experience as a student calling participant or supervisor preferred.
Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to look at data and draw conclusions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to work collaboratively, and an orientation toward customer service.
  • Good judgment, absolute confidentiality, professionalism and discretion required.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Wellesley College.
  • An ability and commitment to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based systems, including tracking systems and a high comfort level using technology to communicate and share information.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, train, coach, and motivate student employees and volunteers.
  • Outstanding work organization, time management skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with a mix of student, alumnae, and staff colleagues.
  • Must have the ability to innovate, think strategically and conceptually, manage multiple projects and handle difficult situations.

  • This is an exempt, full-time position.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours; frequent evening and occasional weekend work are required.
