Position Summary

Michigan State University Department of Family Medicine seeks applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Health Programs Faculty Appointment System. This is a unique position that allows you to combine clinical practice with teaching and research.

The ideal candidate is Board Certified in Family Medicine or will just have completed an accredited residency in Family Medicine. The candidate should have a strong interest in medical student education, family medicine or educational research, or community outreach and engagement. Fellowship training in women's health, sports medicine, geriatrics, or other areas are welcome, but not required. Candidates with interest in Family Medicine obstetrics are especially encouraged to apply.

Faculty in the Department of Family Medicine-East Lansing deliver comprehensive primary care services to patients on the main University campus in East Lansing. The practice is made up of family physicians and nurse practitioners with a commitment to high-quality primary care, focused on the needs of the community, including pediatric care. Applicants have the opportunity to deliver prenatal and obstetric care, if desired. Faculty also supervise family medicine residents on a medical inpatient service at Sparrow Hospital.

The Department of Family Medicine is a vibrant community of scholars, encompassing a range of disciplines, committed to medical student education, resident education, and community health. All faculty are engaged in medical student education, and opportunities for resident teaching are available. Physician faculty have opportunities to develop skills in research and scholarship through collaboration with experienced researchers. The Department collaborates with a statewide network of family medicine residency programs and supports medical student education across eight campuses, distributed throughout the state of Michigan, including rural and urban underserved communities.

The College of Human Medicine is committed to high-quality medical education, and faculty have many opportunities to develop skills as an educator. The Department and College actively support faculty development. The College and University also offer multiple opportunities for collaboration in addressing community health problems, including a robust Public Health division and a nationally renowned University Extension program.

This is a unique position that allows you to combine clinical practice with medical student teaching and scholarly work, developing skills and experience as a medical educator.
