Job Description:


The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of Engineering Education, with a starting date of Spring 2024 or Fall 2024. The appointment will be housed within the Engineering Design Division.


The successful candidate will have made significant research contributions in engineering education, will be able to obtain competitive external research funding, and will have a potential for quality research mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our preferred candidate will have a proven track record of excellence in teaching lower division undergraduate engineering courses. We are particularly interested in candidates whose areas of research and teaching expertise are in one or more of the following areas, however, applicants focusing on other areas within Engineering Education are also encouraged to apply:


  • Pre-college engineering education
  • Design and innovation
  • Lower division engineering studies and first year experience

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses, conducting scholarly research, pursuing grants, along with performing services in support of the Engineering Design Division and the Watson College.


About the Engineering Design Division:


The Engineering Design Division's (EDD) delivers Watson College's common first-year engineering program, which provides students with a solid foundation of core engineering, oral and written communication, teamwork, and research skills, and prepares students for success in their subsequently selected major. It accomplishes this through a curriculum that includes exciting design projects, stimulating laboratory experiences, and engaging classroom instruction. Courses offered include Introduction to Engineering Design, Introduction to Engineering Analysis, and Engineering Communications I and II. EDD also offers a minor program in General Engineering, which is available to non-engineering majors, and a minor program in Sustainability Engineering, which is open to all engineering majors.



Requirements:


Qualifications include an earned PhD in Engineering Education or any field of engineering, demonstrated scholarship resulting in conference presentation and/or publication within the field of Engineering Education, excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong commitment to teaching and research, demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
