Miller School of Medicine aspires to be within the top 25 in the country over the next ten years. In addition to the 4-year MD program, Miller School of Medicine offers multiple competitive four-year dual degree programs (MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MD/MS), the Scholars in Medicine (BS/MD) program as well as the Medical Scientist Training Program that results in MD and PhD degrees. Our busy program draws over 11,000 applications per year.

The Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has the primary responsibility of recruiting high quality, well rounded and diverse groups of ~200 students annually. Reporting to the Executive Dean for Education, the Associate Dean for Admissions will facilitate the admission and financial aid process in conjunction with the Financial Aid Office and implement and high-quality enrollment management strategy for the Miller School of Medicine.

This position is a half-time position (negotiable) with the other ~50% work effort within a clinical, education or basic science department.

Candidates for this position will meet the requirements for appointment as associate professor or higher rank in the Miller School of Medicine.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

The Associate Dean for Admissions:

  • Oversees all aspects of medical school students selection.
  • Directs and manages recruitment efforts from across the U.S. in alignment with the school's strategic objectives
  • Coordinates secure and streamlined access to application materials from students to all members of the Admissions Committee for screening and interview decisions within established timelines.
  • Become proficient in admissions portal and other systems including consumer relations management (CRM) systems and develop process that leverage relevant systems.
  • Leads and facilitates Admissions Committee work in file evaluations, interviewing and balloting
  • Provides timely communication of interview schedules and admissions decisions
  • Maintains a strong and accurate web presence (website, social media, etc.) of our educational programs including implementation of strategies for marketing and communications to segmented target audiences.
  • Provide staff supervision and personnel management in the Medical Admissions Office.
  • Develop and implement standards policies and procedures related to medical school admissions including technical standards and honor codes in accordance with the LCME.
  • Develop a strong enrollment management plan aligned with the Office of Student Affairs.
  • Liaise with the AAMC, to comply with all admissions traffic rules and reporting responsibilities as the University's senior Admissions Officer.
  • Collects and analyzes admissions, enrollment, and financial aid data and prepares detailed reports on statistics, trends and recommendations
  • Provide support to the Medical Scholars Program selection committee for students matriculating through the University's BS/MD Program.
  • Work in conjunction with the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement to ensure diversity of the matriculating student body
  • Provide accurate and timely reports on the details of the applicant pool, matriculating students, and scholarship distributions as needed

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

This position requires an MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree.

Certification and Licensing:

Florida Medical License (if applicable)

Experience:

5+ years of academic or professional background Higher Education

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Experience with student information systems interpreting data from admissions, financial aid, and registration and student finance modules to forecast, analyze, evaluate and provide continuous quality improvement.
  • Expert oral and written communication skills, specifically as it relates to communicating to a variety of internal and external stakeholders including dual degree program leaders
  • Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating enrollment management strategies that support the mission and market-driven program priorities.
  • Demonstrated expertise building collaborations between academia, industrial and/or internal stakeholders across all functions. Expert ability to work with dynamic and diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Managerial experience, both with direct reports and with cross-functional teams that do not have a direct, formal reporting structure.
  • Track record of program implementation, strategic planning, and managing across multiple important priorities.

Department Specific Functions

The Associate Dean for Admissions:
  • Collaborates with the Development team to fundraise to support scholarship funding for students.
  • Makes budget allocation decisions about scholarships and student programming in partnership with the Executive Dean for Education.
  • Plans, directs, and controls program budget and manages financial, HR, technical and other supporting resources.
  • Creates assessment system, tracks results of new programs, and communicates those results. Based on assessment results, recommends changes to program's content, policies, and strategic goals accordingly.
  • Partners with Office of Diversity Inclusion and Community Engagement and other Student Affairs offices to increase diversity in admissions.
