Title: AVP, Actuary - Life & Health

What to expect:

You will act as an actuarial and financial model advisor to clients, brokers, and markets. Assess reinsurance structures from actuarial prospective, monitor industry developments, research and respond to information requests, and provide timely and accurate service.

We will count on you to:

  • Act as an advisor, delivering a coherent and compelling narrative after drawing insights and conclusions from actuarial analyses.
  • Assess a range of risk exposures and predict outcomes for clients particularly as regards evaluating reinsurance programs, communicating directly with senior team members, brokers, and or clients on client's needs and reinsurance programs
  • Continuously seek more efficient ways to complete client projects.
  • Take part in or lead internal initiatives, offering ideas and feedback to improve outcomes as well as to help develop Guy Carpenter's thought leadership and industry expertise.
  • Promote our team-oriented and highly collaborative culture by building strong relationships based on mutual respect.
  • Evaluate and communicate reinsurance-related risk by interrogating data, performing experience and exposure rating, and understanding the drivers of the results
  • Model the probability distributions of the gross/ceded/net underwriting results of an insurance company client based on an actuarial analysis of frequency and severity focusing on a large losses using proprietary software.
  • Analyze how the distribution of results and relevant risk measures change as a result of application on various proposed reinsurance alternatives.
  • Utilize cost/benefit analysis to advise brokers and clients "optimal" reinsurance programs based on risk tolerance level.
  • Evaluate historical experience of treaties for use in negotiation of renewals and commutations.
  • Support GC and MMC efforts in market creation and other projects requiring actuarial expertise.
  • Respond to client queries and concerns, resolving issues promptly.
  • Follow GC Professional Standards guidelines to minimize the potential for errors and omissions.
  • Update management on issues, progress, etc., regularly and upon request.
  • Flexibility to work on variety of A&H products as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties assigned.

What you need to have:
  • 3-5 years of relevant actuarial experience
  • Progress towards ASA designation.
  • Bachelors' degree in quantitative field such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining good client and internal relationships.
  • Strong ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills for using SQL & Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Robust data management skills: ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data.
  • Strong ability to maintain compliance with professional standards, where applicable, as well as company-wide quality initiatives.
  • Strong ability to be open and flexible to changes in the organization and marketplace.
  • Strong oral & written communication skills.
