West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Biological Lab Technician with the Department of Biochemistry

About the Opportunity

The selected candidate will work with the Principal Investigator (PI) to understand the roles of molecular motors in human vision and hearing processes. We also strive to identify new molecular targets for treatments for both congenital and acquired deaf-blindness. You will help the team in research supplies and lab logistics. You will also actively participate in the ongoing research including regular presentation at our weekly group meetings.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintenance of cell lines, protein expression and purification
  • Generating constructs for expressing proteins in eukaryotic cells
  • Preparation of reagents as needed
  • Willing to assist in mentoring junior lab members
  • Ordering and stocking of chemicals including maintenance of inventories
  • Overall maintenance of laboratory as a part of the team
     


Qualifications

  • Bachelors in life sciences or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year of lab research experience including molecular cloning and protein purification is preferred
  • Knowledge of laboratory environment and appropriate procedures
  • Knowledge in general cell biology and molecular techniques
  • Ability to prepare reagents
  • Ability to use Microsoft office and other related lab software/applications
  • Skilled at using general laboratory equipment
  • Good organization skills and self-motivation
  • Willingness and ability to learn new protocols/procedures in a rapid manner
  • Ability to get along with others in a group setting
