Job Role Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Bench Repair Technician repairs and maintains entry-level medical equipment under the close supervision of biomedical engineering management. The Bench Technician is trained by experienced technicians in the troubleshooting and repair of advanced medical equipment

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Performs preventative maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of both mechanical and electronic entry-level medical equipment
• Ensures safety as related to medical equipment and its use to include; acceptance inspection for new equipment, safety inspections from borrowed and/or rental equipment, scheduled safety and operational inspection of current inventory, following appropriate sterile procedures
• Responsible for documenting work activity both in equipment maintenance software and on appropriate forms when required, in a timely manner
• Responsible for equipment maintenance within "core" group of equipment as well as any assigned equipment to include scheduled preventative maintenance and repair; this includes meeting department thresholds for equipment PM completion
• Responsible for the proper operation and safety of patient related equipment
• Assists experienced BMETs to perform and learn advanced medical equipment repairs.
• Assist with special project assignments and can successfully prioritize tasks in consideration of deadlines
• Learn and maintain biomedical expertise through ongoing training and education
• Will frequently be assigned activities overseen by management or BMET IIIs
• Works with Information Security Officer to understand HIPAA and ePHI requirements and ensures compliance for Biomedical Engineering staff

Job Requirements

• High school diploma
• Completion of an Associate or Vocational degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or related technology field preferred
• Current BMET/HETM students with one year of job-related experience or BMET/HETM students in last semester of completion preferred
• Must hold a valid Indiana driver's license that meets Eskenazi Health's driving policy requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Basic knowledge/understanding of electronic circuits and related information
• Basic knowledge/understanding of medical terminology
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• Effectively communicate with written and oral skills to clinical hospital staff, departmental personnel and vendors
• Utilize Microsoft office applications for communications and educational presentations
• Maintain an orderly and efficient work space contained within your assigned area
• Knowledge of physical sciences as it applies to the area of medical instrumentation and devices
• Maintain knowledge and commitment toward job specific measured competencies
