Our client is a 450+ bed, private, not for profit hospital with an immediate need for a permanent* Blood Bank Clinical Laboratory Scientist to work four 10-hour day/mid shift with rotating weekends.
Salary Range: Low $40's/hour to mid/upper $50's/hour based on years of experience.
This opportunity boasts a $10,000 sign-on bonus PLUS $10,000 relocation assistance as well as excellent benefits and tuition reimbursement.
*Please note: They will also consider a BB traveler for a 13+ week contract
Job Summary:
Blood bank technologists perform both routine and specialized tests in blood banks, blood donor centers, transfusion services, reference laboratories and research facilities.
Skill Requirements:
- Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot and maintain the equipment
- Dexterity and good hand-eye coordination are required to collect and prepare specimens
- Follow instructions and procedures very carefully
- Critical thinking skills to recognize problems and develop solutions or alternative approaches
- Lab safety and infection prevention is of paramount importance
Responsibilities may include but not be limited to:
- Testing for blood group antigens, compatibility and antibody identification
- Investigating abnormalities and adverse reactions to transfusion
- Supporting physicians in transfusion therapy for patients
- Performing viral marker testing to ensure patient safety
- Managing patient blood
Education, Certification, & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in science
- CA CLS license in BB required
- Two (2) years of solid blood bank experience
- Familiarity with McKesson LIS and Biorad for automation
- Must be able to do manual typing and screening and some molecular/COVID/respiratory testing as they service the E/D patients
