Bridge Engineer

Career Area: Engineering - Structural

What We're Looking For:
This Bridge Engineer position will report to the regional Bridge Practice Leader and will work on various types of bridge projects and help to develop innovative practical solutions to various structural design challenges. This role is responsible for performing challenging bridge design and analysis tasks as well as other structural engineering tasks for bridge systems and components. The success metrics for this role are quality delivery, adherence to project budgets, and mentoring junior employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage bridge projects for public clients at the local, county, and state level
  • Knowledgeable in using industry accepted engineering and bridge design software
  • Perform calculations and act as technical advisor to less experienced engineers
  • Perform bridge inspections for routine and complex bridge structures, prepare reports, and coordinate with other team members
  • Adheres to scopes of work, project hours and schedules
  • Check for accuracy of completed work
  • Travel to collect field data, conduct field reviews, monitor construction progress, conduct client meetings, and participate in public hearing or interview presentations


Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited program; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in bridge design or structural engineering projects
  • Registered PE in respective states or ability to obtain in six months
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes
  • Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis
  • Experience and understanding of structural engineering software packages like: MDX, LEAP Concrete, Open Bridge Designer, MicroStation, etc.
  • Bridge inspection experience is preferred and NHI certification as a team leader is a plus
  • Preferred experience would include project work on numerous types of bridge structures as well as load rating experience
  • Preferred experience with respective state Departments' of Transportation bridge plan layout preferred
