The Advanced Practice Nurse/CaseAdministrator II is a professional nurse who has acquired specialized knowledgeand skills through completion of a graduate program of study. The APRNhas the credentials to function in an expanded nursing role and is responsiblefor the daily management of selected patients. The APRN has theresponsibility for assessment and management of patients including diagnosticand therapeutic interventions, implementation and evaluation of an appropriateplan of care. The APRN works with her/his collaborating physician inaccordance with mutually developed practice guidelines.

On the MSE ART, the APRN isresponsible for working alongside an assigned therapist. As a workingteam, the APRN and Therapist deliver the assessment of the case from both theindividual and family and system point of view, and deliver therapy as dictatedby the plan of care derived from the assessment. The primaryresponsibility of the APRN is to assess the need for medication treatment, toinitiate it and oversee its effectiveness, and to maintain communication withthe medical treaters outside the ART, usually the PCP and outpatientpsychiatrist for the patient. The APRN may participate in individual,family and system meetings with the Primary Therapist to assist treatment ingoing forward.

Qualifications
Education:

Graduate degree from an accreditedschool of nursing.

Licensure:

Current licensure in theCommonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse in the Advanced Practicerole in Psychiatric Nursing. DEA and DPH licensure for prescriptivepractice. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Board Certification preferred.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated skills in psychopharmacologic interventions for adolescents with severe emotion regulation challenges. Knowledge of all relevant diagnostic categories and skill in assessing and promoting treatment for complex adolescent cases.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.

  • Experience:

    Professional and clinical experienceworking in psychiatric care setting preferred.

    Certification:

    ANCC certified as an AdvancedPractice Nurse. Certification as either a Psychiatric Clinical NurseSpecialist in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing or as a Psychiatric NursePractitioner.

    Working Conditions:

    Office environment used for patientinterviewing. Works in a typical acute psychiatric care setting withpatients who are experiencing a wide range of psychiatric conditions.

    Physical and Mental Efforts:

    Clinical judgment necessary toassess patient's medical and psychiatric status. Requires skills to workwith patients and family members.

    Moderate amount of sitting, walking,and standing. Significant mental effort required to manage multiple andcomplex assessments and treatment plans for patients and families.

    All employees must possess basiccomputer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems forcommunication, clinical and administrative purposes.

    Required to complete electronicmedical records training, and demonstrate 80% accuracy on competency testwithin 30 days of hire.
