The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) seeks an outstanding academician for appointment as an Associate Professor or Full Professor position on either the non-tenure clinician-educator track or the tenure track to serve as Chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine. Applicants must have an M.D or M.D./Ph.D. or comparable degree and outstanding qualifications in clinical care, education, and research. Applicants must be board certified in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine, ideally with subspecialty certification in Adolescent Medicine.

The next Division Chief will lead one of the largest and most successful adolescent medicine programs in the nation. The Division of Adolescent Medicine is comprised of 20 faculty with diverse clinical, educational, and investigative interests, as well as 6 Adolescent Medicine fellows and over 60 staff members.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and APPs. The Division has responsibilities for training large numbers of students, residents, and fellows. Educating the next generation of Adolescent Medicine leaders is a priority of the Division, which holds an HRSA MCHB-funded Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) training grant. The LEAH Program is designed to reduce health disparities and improve the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults by training future leaders focused on young people 10-25 years of age, including leaders in the 5 core disciplines of medicine, nursing, nutrition, psychology, and social work.

Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient or outpatient services in any of the areas referenced below. The Division of Adolescent Medicine leads multiple robust outpatient clinical programs including Adolescent Primary Care and Family Planning Clinic; Adolescent Medicine Subspecialty Referral Clinic; Eating Disorder Program; Adolescent HIV Program; Gender and Sexual Development Program; Substance Use Program; and a clinic at the Philadelphia Covenant House (a facility for youth experiencing homelessness). The Division has a strong inpatient presence, which consists of a large teaching service at the Main CHOP Hospital Campus in Philadelphia and a Malnutrition Unit at the new CHOP community-based hospital in King of Prussia. We also provide inpatient medical services at a behavioral health hospital in the local area.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include adolescent and young adult health research. The next Division Chief will lead a large group of investigators that are focused on promoting the development, identification, dissemination, and implementation of best practices and effective health policies to reduce health disparities and improve the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults. The group has a strong track record of extramural federal funding and is highly skilled in health services research, quality improvement science, community-engaged research, and epidemiologic methods.

The Division Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and works closely with the other Division Chiefs, the Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair in the Department of Pediatrics. The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division, lead recruiting efforts in the Division and ensure career mentoring for all faculty and fellows in the Division.
