Summary

The Chief Pilot is responsible to the Senior Director of Flight Operations for those activities which pertain to general supervision of the flight crewmembers for the purpose of maintaining a high level of proficiency, safety and standardization in flight operations and personnel management.

Essential duties and/or responsibilities

The Chief Pilot responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervision of flight crewmember as to their qualifications and compliance with rules and regulations of both the FAA and the Company. Ensuring that Company standards are met by all crewmembers.
  • General supervision of flight crewmembers and their scheduled assignments.
  • Assisting the Senior Director of Flight Operations in the development of new flight operations policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Assisting the Director of Flight Training in the selection of Instructors and Check Airman.
  • May exercise operational control over company aircraft in the temporary absence of the Senior Director of Flight Operations.
  • Implementation of new and approved flight operations policies and practices.
  • Assists the Senior Director of Flight Operations in projecting pilot staffing and pilot experience requirements for new hires and upgrade opportunities. This will include interviewing pilot applicants, upgrade requests and selection determinations.
  • Participates in weekly Crew Manpower Planning Meetings
  • Is responsible for maintaining the Pilot Seniority list and its distribution monthly to the Pilot group.
  • Responsible for scheduling and participating in pilot disciplinary hearings.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and serve as a subject matter expert.
  • Responsible in collaboration with the Human Resources department to administer various types of approved leave for Pilots.
  • Serve as a member of the Event Review Committee for the Aviation Safety Action Plan.
  • Serve when directed to participate in various emergency response drills.
  • Responsible to serve as a delegate for an Emergency Response activity.
  • Participate in daily operation calls.
  • Is responsible for ensuring the currency of all flight crew records.
  • Promptly inform the Director of Flight Training upon identifying a pilot in need of remedial training, accompanied by a comprehensive written description of the specific areas requiring the review.
  • Removes crewmembers from line status if they fail to meet company standards.
  • Performs the duties of the Director of Flight Training when that position is vacant.
  • Assists the Senior Director of Flight Operations in formulating operations policies, coordinates those policies, and coordinates operations and training.
  • Disseminates information to all crewmembers pertaining to routes, airports, NOTAMS, NAVAIDS, company policies, and regulations.
  • Maintains proficiency as Pilot-in-Command, If applicable, can be waived by the Senior Director of Flight Operations.
  • Reports to the Senior Director of Flight Operations
  • Additional administrative duties as assigned by Senior Director of Flight Operations.

Education and/or certification

  • Must have all qualifications listed in FAA 14 CFR §119.65, 119.67(b), or have alternative qualifications for approval of a deviation.
  • Be extremely knowledgeable of FAA part 121 regulations.
  • Must hold a type rating in the B-767 aircraft or qualify in company aircraft within 12 months of DOH
  • ATP with a total of 3000 hours.
  • Minimum 1500 hours PIC.
  • Candidates with previous Chief Pilot, management or extensive Check Airman experience will be given additional consideration.
  • Previous Part 121 Chief Pilot or Director of Operations experience preferred.
  • Previous experience leading a work group governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement

Language skills
Must meet at least the minimums required by the Federal Aviation regulations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

ATP

Preferred knowledge

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and special projects assigned simultaneously.
  • Self-starter, enthusiastic, dependable, and professional team player.
  • Prior use of AIMS tracking system

Physical demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb up and down stairs; lift weight up to 25lbs; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Work environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, facsimile machines and filing cabinets.
