Summary of Duties:

The Director of the WSU Children's Center provides leadership in overall management of the Pullman campus children's center. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: staffing, budgeting, marketing and public relations, decision-making, strategic planning, and evaluating. This position is responsible for pursuing and maintaining grants. The Director is responsible for ensuring the center is in compliance with state licensing regulations and national accreditation.


Required Qualifications:

Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.

  • Two (2) years experience in leading a child care center. Demonstrated skills in budgeting, programming, licensing, marketing, public relations, staffing, and evaluating.

  • DEL Background clearance: no convictions for child neglect, child abuse or physical harm to another person.

  • Must be Washington STARS certified within 6 months from date of hire.

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid driver's license at time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.A. or M.S. degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Early Childhood Program Administration.

  • Forty-five (45) credit hours of specialized college-level course work in early childhood education that encompasses child development and children's learning from birth through kindergarten.

  • Nine (9) credit hours of specialized college-level course work in administration, leadership, and management.

  • Meet the qualifications outlined in WAC 170-295-1010.

  • Experience with university child care setting, national accreditation, and DEL licensing.

  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training. Negative results of TB skin test.

  • Current Pediatric first aid/CPR and Infant/Child CPR.

Monthly Salary:

$6,100.00 - $6,600.00

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
