Overview

This is a Temporary 9-month position with a salary plus benefits (see at bottom for more). There is a possibility of this position becoming a permanent position, contingent on additional funding for the organization. This is a remote position reporting to offices in New York, Washington, DC, and Greensboro, NC.

Purpose

To coordinate and implement civic engagement efforts involving the CWS network. Under the direction of the Director of Grassroots Organizing, the position will help coordinate and manage the CWS Civic Engagement Program with an emphasis on new American voter populations (voting eligible members of immigrant and refugee communities). The CWS Civic Engagement Coordinator is part of the CWS Advocacy Team and will help develop and enact effective strategies and actions to educate and mobilize new American communities to be involved in civic engagement. Responsibilities will include developing a CWS voter engagement field plan, following up and training local organizers, managing contact lists, accessing the Voter Activation Network, leading educational workshops, and assisting with communications needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and executing a voter engagement plan for CWS that includes GOTV activities, voter registration, and training components and manage its implementation.
  • Represent CWS at coalition election strategy meetings.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Grassroots Organizing, maintain relationships with CWS member communions, denomination representatives, and congregations.
  • Assist in efforts to educate, mobilize, and organize immigrant-led congregations as a way to connect with new American voters.
  • Assist the Director of Grassroots Organizing, regional organizers, refugee organizers, and refugee leadership teams in key states to further national, state, and local priorities.
  • Assist the policy team in identifying key local election events, such as town halls or voter registration drives with partner organizations, and assist in preparing sample questions for candidates, scripts and talking points.
  • Assist with database tools (such as Action Network and the Voter Activation Network) for coordinating voter outreach via text and phone banking and also to manage contacts and track grassroots activities and outcomes.
  • Coordinate with the communications team on relevant social media and communications activities including Op-Eds, media advisories and videos demonstrating the importance of civic participation for new Americans.
  • Assist with administrative tasks that include tracking all civic engagement activities with the ability to create narrative reports from the data and metrics gathered.
  • Attend, present at, and provide resources at relevant meetings, forums, and trainings around civic engagement.

Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of Three years experience working with local congregations, new American communities, and knowledge of refugee resettlement is preferred. Previous experience working with refugee and immigrant communities doing voter registration, voter education, Get Out the Vote strategies, advocacy, and/or community organizing. Knowledge and experience in working with the Voter Activation Network database, Action Network, Hustle, Excel, PowerPoint and/or other database software is essential. Strong organization, relationship building, writing, and verbal presentation skills are a must. Strong understanding of 501(c)(3) allowable activities around election strategy and civic engagement.

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in the related field.

Skills:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required;
  • Fluency in other languages a plus;
  • Computer literacy in new media, social media, word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, webinar technology, video editing, and Microsoft Office applications preferred;
  • Ability to travel domestically and to work flexible hours, some evening or weekend hours, and off-site work as needed;
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
