Job Summary/Department Overview:
The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) and Multidisciplinary Studies (MDS) programs are designed to help students creatively combine their ideas and experiences with new, interdisciplinary learning opportunities to better understand context and discover new connections; to create mindful, collaborative, and productive relationships; and ultimately, to become reflective and adaptive learners. Both programs are deeply committed to making a high quality college education in Idaho more accessible, more affordable, more inclusive, and more connected to each individual student's personal and professional goals and interests. Both programs are offered completely online, year-round, and in 7-week sessions. We have academic partners in every college at Boise State, and education, community, and industry partners across Idaho.

Level Scope:
A Clinical Instructor is a member of the ranked faculty who holds appropriate or required licenses/certifications, if expected, but may not have a terminal degree; has demonstrated achievement in the areas of clinical instruction; research, scholarship, or creative activities (if expected); institutional and professional service appropriate to the discipline; and is eligible for promotion but not tenure.

Essential Functions:
Teaching (70%)

  • Teach BAS and MDS online courses (specifically, course load could include the BAS or MDS 1-credit introductory courses, MDS 315 Integrative Learning, MDS 375 Perspective Taking, MDS 385 Asking Questions and Framing Problems, the 3-credit capstone sequence, and MDS 301 Prior Learning Portfolio Development)
  • Teaching load will likely be 3-3-2 (fall-spring-summer), but may shift depending on enrollment trends and need

Curriculum and Program Development (20%)
  • Maintain and approve updates to BAS and MDS master courses
  • Support and implement continuous improvement plan for BAS and MDS curriculum
  • Collaborate with faculty team to continue to develop prior learning and experiential learning best practices and to create new, integrative competency-based learning opportunities for students

Professional Development, Research, and Service (10%)
  • Work with director to create a professional development plan
  • Serve on program, college, and university committees
  • Remain current and identify emerging trends in the research areas most relevant to the BAS and MDS programs


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of adult learning theory and online learning best practices.
  • Understand current best practices and evolving trends in prior learning assessment.
  • Familiarity with a variety of approaches to experiential learning.
  • Experience balancing and completing multiple work projects and responding to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Reliable, dedicated, productive, and adaptable.
  • Ability to actively listen and appropriately respond to students, colleagues, and leadership.
  • Work effectively both independently and as a member of a team. Willingly take direction, remain open and amenable to input, and quickly learn and share new knowledge and skills.
  • Exemplify professionalism and integrity.
  • Thrive, engage, and work effectively in a dynamic, highly collaborative, results-driven, and interactive environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in any field with an interest in professionally-focused, integrative learning opportunities
  • Experience teaching adult and nontraditional students


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in any field with an interest in professionally-focused, integrative learning opportunities
  • Experience teaching adult and nontraditional students
  • Extensive online teaching experience

Salary and Benefits:
Salary $65,000-$75,000 per year; commensurate with experience.
