Description:

The Commercial Loan Assistant will support assigned Portfolio Managers (PM) and Relationship Managers (RM) with certain loan activities related to the processing and closing of commercial loans. The incumbent is responsible for an assigned pipeline of all loan types relative to the line of business supported. This role will act as the Pre-Closing Liaison to an assigned team within the Commercial Division, acting in tandem with the Loan Operations team. The incumbent will ensure all due diligence requirements are satisfied, compliance with WSFS policies, procedures, and government regulations, and loan data is accurately reflected in required company operating systems as outlined in final credit approval.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine due diligence required for each deal. Communicate requirements to relationship team, client, and attorney (as applicable) and plan accordingly to meet scheduled closing date. Acts as an escalation point for involved parties to resolve issues and provide training around loan documentation and due diligence.
  • Based on preliminary review of loan documents, identify needed modifications to the approval.
  • Validate the KYC status of the customer along with entity documents to ensure customers are in good standing/registered properly. Appropriate documentation must be collected per requirements for specific customer entity structures. Work with Loan Operations Closers and Flood Specialist to perform validation and confirm due diligence requirements.
  • Dependent on type of loan documentation, lends support to the Relationship Manager in engaging approved external legal counsel and coordinating the closing date, ensuring that date is indicated (and modified when appropriate) on closing calendar, and complete preliminary review.
  • For all assigned loan closings, work with Portfolio Administrations (PAs) to ensure that all associated loan fees are reflected accurately. Fees must be processed/collected prescribed timeframes by the PAs, and follow-up performed when needed.
  • Communicate and partner effectively with other departments in the Bank and work as a team player to establish exemplary partnerships with all co-workers and create a positive team environment. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with third party vendors, customers, Relationship Managers, and other internal partners to address discrepancies/issues found during due diligence/loan closing/ongoing review process.
  • Possess the ability to meet deadlines by working with multiple Relationship Managers on concurrent closing requests, including the potential for making ‘last minute’ modifications. Notifies supervisor when support is needed for either due diligence/documentation requests or for less complex loan closings.
  • Responsible for supporting the closing process by confirming loan closing package is ready for funding and archiving and ensure that the loan package(s) complies with the associated credit approval(s). Checklist required for all new loans, but not required for modifications with no new money.
  • Assist the Relationship Manager with the clearance of delinquent documents and other exceptions with appropriate areas post-closing.
  • Actively participates on departmental projects and committees as needed.
  • Maintain WSFS internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Deliver high quality service, while ensuring accuracy and timeliness of delivery

Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelor’s degree, or commensurate experience in commercial banking lending field.
  • Must have minimum of 2 years’ Commercial Loan Operations or Commercial Banking sales support.
  • Must have knowledge of required legal documentation, loan structure, and paralegal experience helpful.
  • Must have limited knowledge of different areas of banking that provide in-depth experience in Bank products, services and the marketplace.
  • Prior experience with Commercial nCino platform preferred.
  • Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent software packages.
  • Knowledge of applicable products, systems, and workflows.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually as well as a member of a team.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized individual.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and handle multiple tasks in support of various assignments.
  • Ability to function professionally at many different levels (clients, management, and peers). Strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside organization.
  • Solid knowledge of unit/department policies and procedures.
