The position will be an integral part of the Florida Institute for Child Welfare team to facilitate the rapid translation of research into visually engaging products designed for a range of technical and non-technical stakeholder audiences. This position will provide leadership in the development of all Institute communications to expand the reach of research products produced by Institute faculty, staff, affiliates, and contracted entities. In addition to facilitating the translation of research, this position will also contribute to the growth of the Institute's professional development initiatives through marketing and recruitment planning, document creation, and collaboration with the Program Director of Professional Development. Working under the supervision of the Program Director of Administration, the Communications and Data Visualization Specialist will work with Institute staff, students, and university communication teams to amplify the message of the Institute among legislators, academic, child welfare, and other family-focused audiences.
Leads all communications initiatives by facilitating strategic communications planning and development of creative and innovative communications ideas and methods to showcase results and outcomes from the initiation and conclusion of projects.
Collaborates with and oversee Institute team members to facilitate creative discussions to form conceptual ideas leading to the design and development of inforgraphics, charts maps, and other visual or audio content for publications, reports, presentations, marketing materials, social media, podcasts, and other mediums to disseminate content generated from Institute activities. Support the Institute to develop means to effectively share knowledge with internal and external stakeholders.
Translates technical findings into more user friendly products like brochures, brieflits, and infographics for non-technical audiences. Design and build publication-ready visualizations using unstructured and structured data.
QualificationsBachelor's degree and four years experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)
Experience with graphic layout techniques and art in a digital format.
Skill in analyzing and determining the most appropriate media for creation of graphic images.
Experience in writing and/or proofreading and editing written word and/or information in various formats.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to meet project deadlines.
Experience in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
PreferredExperience with web design and development.

This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University.
