JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Manager (Editor 2) will oversee communications and marketing projects for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), UConn's largest and broadest college. Working under the direction of the CLAS Director of Communications, the Communications Manager will develop and execute excellent written communications and creative strategies for strengthening the College and University's reputation and community using social media, web, and email marketing tools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant will:
- Write creative and innovative content that tells the success stories of CLAS, including writing news stories and social media posts, web and marketing copy, and other writing projects as needed
- Manage the College's social media platforms, including production, strategy, and planning
- Consult with and advise representative faculty and staff from the 25+ CLAS departments and units on social media and web content strategy to meet Unit, College, and University goals
- In collaboration with internal partners, support marketing projects including website development, brochures and fact sheets, donor and alumni communications, and internal faculty/staff communications.
- Develop and use a deep understanding of the College and the University's brand, tone, and voice, and maintain consistency and excellence across written products
- Oversee a portfolio of student marketing and communications initiatives, including coordinating with student groups to supply content that meets College and student goals
- Work as a team player on collaborative projects with University and UConn Foundation colleagues to raise the profile of UConn and its academic successes
- Perform related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, humanities, media, or related fieldTwo to three years of experience in writing and social media managementDemonstrated exceptional and versatile written communication skills and ability to translate complex topics into accessible writingExperience managing social media campaigns, including strategy and hands-on productionExperience writing copy for various marketing platforms, including web, brochures, and video scriptsAbility to work diplomatically and productively with clients and collaborators from a variety of backgroundsAbility to create communications plans and see them through to completion, assessment, and adjustmentPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAn advanced degree in a related fieldExperience working in higher education or with student groupsExperience with design tools such as InDesign and PhotoshopAbility to produce photo and/or video content for social mediaA demonstrated appreciation for the mission of a liberal arts educational institutionAPPOINTMENT TERMS This is a full-time, 12-month position.
