Overview
The Communications Officer is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses - are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Job Details Facility: Wellstar West Georgia Medical CenterOverviewResponsible for and assists with all communication duties essential for the protection of patients, public, staff and hospital property. Train new personnel in the functions of a communications technician. In-service employees on procedural changes. Answers phones, monitors both internal and external alarm systems, monitor video surveillance systems and dispatches officers as required. Communicates with public safety officials from law enforcement, fire and EMS as needed and provides necessary information to aid in safety and protection of patients, public, staff and hospital property. Process identification badges and completes data entry into the Security Services productivity monitoring system. Reports to Communication / Security site Supervisor.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilites and Essential Functions
Answers telephones, dispatches security staff, monitors video surveillance and access control systems
* Answers incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, determines the nature of the call; assigns priority to call; simultaneously enters information into computer.
* Prioritizes calls and dispatches security staff per departmental policy.
* Monitors access control intercom system and provides aid per departmental policy.
* Monitors security surveillance system and alerts appropriate personnel to irregularities.
* Interacts with public over the phone to answer questions, provide information, or resolve problems; provides information on how to retrieve lost or stolen property, retrieve vehicles from impound facilities, obtain accident reports, etc. Alarm monitoring
* Monitors panic and emergency communications call boxes and dispatches emergency responders and/or public safety as directed by written plans.
* Monitors infant, refrigeration, fire, and intrusion alarms and dispatches internal staff, emergency responders and/or public safety per written action plans.
* Monitors access control intercom system and provides aid per departmental policy. Operational support
* Processes bank deposit bag drops and transfers and complete logs.
* Maintains daily activity logs for security officers through computer aided dispatch system (CAD)
* Provides access to team members via local access control system.
* Accepts, secures and releases valuables that are checked in with security for safe keeping.
* Processes photo ID's and parking decals as required. Provide excellent customer service
* Act with honesty and integrity with employees and customers, showing and speaking with respect for the rights of others, human dignity and local culture.
* Maintain a positive working relationship with facility staff members.
* Communicate effectively with diverse people including patients, visitors, employees and medical staff.
* Write accurate, clear and legible reports. Required for All Jobs

High school diploma Required or GED equivalent. Required Required Minimum Experience
Minimum 1 year previous dispatch/communication experience preferred. Preferred Required Minimum Skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Proficiency with dispatching through computer aided dispatch system (CAD) Data entry skills necessary to complete incident reports, identification badges and related documents. Public relations skills necessary to communicate effectively with the public in a courteous, professional and tactful manner. Must be able to accept responsibility, manage authority and maintain confidentiality. Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
