Job Summary

The Communications Specialist will manage all School of Computer & Cyber Sciences (SCCS) internal and external communications efforts.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but not limited to:

Internal Communications Support - Serves as the lead communications advisor to SCCS. Leads strategic communications planning for SCCS. Oversees the production of communication and other written materials, including video scripts, remarks, letters, electronic communication and more on behalf of SCCS. Participates in school outreach efforts to ensure alignment with institutional communications and marketing. Plans, organizes, and directs the daily communications support functions for the school. Works with senior leadership to develop internal employee engagement plans and platforms. Provides support at events and special presentations. Provides communications support for SCCS events. Provides web content development and support. Manages SCCS social media platforms. Serves as the point of contact for school swag design and ordering.

Primary Liaison between SCCS, Communication and Marketing, and Web Services Primary liaison between SCCS, Communications and Marketing, and Web services. Partners with Communications and Marketing to develop and implement strategic communication plans for SCCS. Serves as a point of contact for SCCS projects and initiatives that need communications support. Works with marketing to ensure consistency with branding protocols and organizational strategic plans. Collaborates to accomplish communication goals by exerting exceptional interpersonal skills, creative problem-solving skills, and high levels of influence. Initiates activities that support internal & external communication. Supports employee, student, and community engagement through managing an active and high-quality communication for SCCS programs. Execute media relations efforts in coordination with DCM.

Content Development and Management - Serves as the primary point of contact to draft & edit information to be delivered through the various communications outlets. Schedule, coordinate, and implement communication and promotional meetings. Identify and write internal stories and news items as they pertain to the units, and coordinate wider distribution with DCM (e.g.expert pitches, media release, etc.). Maintain media archives. Create, coordinate, and select photography for print and electronic communications. Develop content to be included in standard materials delivered to stakeholder audiences. Initiate updates to existing content delivered in the various outlets. Serve as a first point of contact for reviewing/editing content initiated by DCM for any form of media. Creates vision manages digital communication including web content and execution. Creates content for newsletters (internal & external). Utilizes templates provided and/or endorsed by DCM to create electronic newsletters for internal and/or external audiences by aggregating content from a variety of sources. Utilizes tools provided and/or endorsed by DCM to electronically distribute newsletters (mail chimp, listservs, etc.). Provide internal e-communications support.

Outreach Coordinator and Support - Coordinates outreach efforts for SCCS to include (but not limited to) GenCyber, Girls Who Code/Codehoppers, high school outreach. Coordinates internal outreach efforts to include living learning community, school clubs, etc. Responsible for communication regarding outreach activities.

Other Duties - Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field.

Minimum of three years' experience in professional role in communications, marketing, or public relations.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of graphic techniques and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) preferred; Working knowledge of FERPA and/or higher education policy preferred; experience marketing graduate and undergraduate.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Must possess working knowledge of the fundamentals of marketing practices.

Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office required.

SKILLS
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

ABILITIES
Ability to work independently with only general supervision.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, complete work, and meet deadlines.

Be a fast learner, a team player, self-motivated, and able to juggle multiple projects.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days- M/F

Pay Grade: 13

Salary: Minimum $16.19/hour- Midpoint $21.15/hour

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
