Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Yamato Steel is seeking a leader for the position of Controller. This Department Manager level position reports directly to the General Manager. Responsibilities of the Controller include, but are not limited to: successfully performing as leader in promoting safety as a value, environmental stewardship, and profitability. Managing all of the division's accounting and financial reporting, as well as being a key contributor in developing and executing the strategic direction of the division and product group. Protecting Nucor's assets through risk-management activities and maintaining an appropriate internal control structure. Providing general financial experience and leadership to critically analyze business situations and formulate appropriate strategies. Managing the human resources, accounting, information systems, and purchasing-related activities and personnel. Being a key business partner to the commercial, operations, and maintenance teams and help facilitate continuous improvement across the facility. The Controller will work as a part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal. Some travel will be expected.Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting
  • 3 years prior leadership and supervisory experience
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in financial-related positions

Problem Solving & Judgment/Decision Making: Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options in order to choose the most appropriate solution.

Attention to Detail: Thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure expectations are met.

Organizing, Planning, & Prioritizing Work: Developing specific goals and plans for prioritizing, organizing, and accomplishing individual work and/or the work of the team.

Developing and Building Teams: Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members as well as effectively managing and resolving conflict as needed.

Administration and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership technique, production methods, recruiting, and coordination of people and resources.

Leadership Presence and Courage: Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on critical alignment issues such as teamwork, building relationships, initiating and supporting change, and production process issues that arise. This includes the willingness to face adversity and conflict head on.

Business Acumen: General business knowledge and an understanding of how Nucor makes money.

Preferences:

  • CPA or MBA
  • Proficiency in human resources, information systems, and/or purchasing
  • Commercially focused with work experience in steelmaking and/or manufacturing
  • Willing to relocate within Nucor for future opportunities.
