Job Summary:

The Stewardship Communications Manager reports to the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship. This position is responsible for managing donor stewardship communications on behalf of the Vice President of Development and External Affairs and the President of the university, in collaboration with their respective offices

Essential Functions:

  • Major Gift Acknowledgements: Research, draft, proof, track, and mail customized letters on behalf of the university President and Vice President for Development and External Affairs for major gifts within 72 hours of gift being booked; execute templated acknowledgements for segments of donors or types of gifts (tributes, donor advised fund gifts, etc.) on a weekly basis/regularly refresh content.
  • Other Communications: Work with Marketing/Communications team to develop/design/produce high-quality print and digital impact pieces for major donors; gather timely narrative and financial gift information as appropriate; recommend and assist in the drafting of stories, student or donor profiles, and videos for various media; implement quarterly updates to receipt stewardship content.
  • Other Stewardship Activity: Assist in review/production of endowment reports; assist with physical and electronic donor recognition, including review of plaque layout and installation; collaborate with Annual Giving to develop and execute stewardship of faculty/staff donors; conduct research/benchmarking and make recommendations to incorporate best practices and innovations to communications; act as point of contact for schools and units to lead efforts to implement best practices as developed by the Director of Donor Relations regarding donor stewardship communications and acknowledgment letters
  • Information Management: Assist in the creation and maintenance of information in systems database pertaining to acknowledgments and stewardship communications; implement and track metrics for assignments and projects for internal reporting; provide data and reports on activity as requested; advocate on behalf of the Donor Relations team and serve as team liaison with central University Marketing & Communications for project management.
  • Other Responsibilities: Contribute to Donor Relations team activities/responsibilities; interact with other DEA divisions as needed; act as a trusted advisor and inspire confidence; model integrity in decisions, communication and treatment of all individuals internal/external to the University community; cultivate alliances across internal units in order to build/maintain strong relationships.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for special event support, with advanced notice provided.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required. Degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations is preferred.

A minimum of two years' of work experience in a position requiring strong project management, writing, editing and proofreading skills is required.

Fundraising, marketing or other writing experience is also required, preferably in a non-profit or higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The ideal candidate must possess strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to forge strong working relationships and represent the University positively to external constituents.

Candidate must demonstrate strong written communication skills with ability to disseminate information into precise and effective written communications. Highly developed writing, research, editing and proofreading skills are essential. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential. Demonstrated ability to write executive level correspondence required.

Candidate must possess strong time management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Must also possess strong problem solving, analytical and research skills, with the ability to be resourceful, proactive, and seek assistance as needed. Strong project management skills are essential. A proven track record of resourcefulness, good judgment and creativity is highly desired.

Candidate must have proficient grasp of electronic information systems and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Advanced Excel, Access); experience with Adobe suite and Asana strongly preferred; expertise with a constituent records database system is preferred; Blackbaud experience is a plus.
