Publicly-traded Pharmaceuticals startup is hiring for a Cost Accountant. This is a newly created role, due to growth.

Job Summary:

The Cost Accountant is responsible for providing management support for the Finance & Manufacturing Departments in order to ensure the success of the overall business. The Cost Accountant will have responsibility for managing the accounting, database and reporting related to the commercial manufacturing environment, cost accounting, and cost of goods sold. The incumbent may also be called upon to provide strategic and executional support and internal coordination in the assigned department.

Receives Direction From:

Accounting Manager (Controller) with functional line to Sr. Director of Manufacturing

Provides Direction To:

Indirect to members of the Project Team (Senior Buyer & Operations Specialist)

Essential Functions

To include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Collecting and analyzing data about the company's Manufacturing/ Inventory costs.
  • Manage Manufacturing Cost system to ensure data is entered correctly to ensure accurate cost and inventory reporting to management.
  • Manage users of Manufacturing Cost system to ensure data and cost flow is being tracked correctly; including data entry as necessary.
  • Setting standard costs of manufactured goods.
  • Periodic review and analysis of COGS.
  • Developing and analyzing cost standards.
  • Carrying out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis.
  • Establishing costs of business processes such as manufacturing, overhead, labor, shipping, etc.
  • Performing account reconciliations.
  • Preparing audit reports and presenting their findings to management.
  • Recommending changes to the company's processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit.
  • Advising executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data.
  • Managing reporting related to manufacturing costs as they relate to the basic financial statements.
  • Supporting Controller with period end financial close as required.
  • Provide support for manufacturing related Accounts Receivable.
  • Other activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES

To include, but are not limited to the following:

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent in Accounting
  • 3+ years of related Cost Accounting industry experience.
  • Experience Managing Manufacturing Cost ERP system.
  • Available to work full time on site in our New York City NY, Redwood City CA, and/or Reno NV office. (Direct Manager is in NYC)
  • CMA a Plus.
  • Experience with CETEC - ERP a Plus.
  • Demonstrated facility in working with senior leadership team and influencing without direct control.
  • Proficient in pertinent software & tools, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong critical and logical thinking with ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and implement recommendations for resolution.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and presentation.
  • Self-motivated, flexible and creative, able to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced, performance driven environment. Experience in a start-up environment is a plus.
  • Able to quickly take ownership of a given assignment and proactively consult external partners, project team members and/or relevant department representatives for information and guidance as necessary.
  • Able to understand and interpret data/information and its practical application
  • Travel up to 20%

Physical Requirements: standing, sitting, walking, stairs, light lifting, computer operation. Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination (religious or medical opt-out is allowed) is required.
