$30 per hour

Job Summary:

Southern Methodist University (SMU) is seeking a temporary Counselor at our state-of-the-art campus facility, the Dr. Bob Smith Health Center. The Counselor provides mental health services to enrolled SMU students.

This is not a benefits eligible position. Temporary position. The Dr. Bob Smith Health Center is open 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work hours: 20-37.5 hours a week; some flexibility in schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Direct psychological services for students (individual, and group) crisis intervention, referrals) and consultations regarding students.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Master's degree required. Those with a Doctoral degree are encouraged to apply.

Licensed in the state of Texas (or license eligible) in psychology, counseling, social work or related field, is required.

A minimum of two years of counseling work experience is required.

Work experience in a college or university counseling center is preferred.

Thorough knowledge of and experience with administration and interpretation of psychological tests is preferred.

Solid experience with crisis intervention is required.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite is required. Experience with Electronic Medical Records is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, with the ability to interface professionally with students and staff.

Candidate must have strong diagnostic and case conceptualization skills with the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective treatment plans.

Must have astute problem solving skills, especially relating to clinical emergencies.

Candidate must handle Electronic Medical Records and private health information with complete confidentiality at all times. Must follow HIPAA compliance regulations, adherance to legal and ethical principles, and Health Center policies.

Must have excellent organizational skills which include effective planning and time management, as well as attention to details.
