Role Definition

Data Discovery and Enrichment (DDE) Experts are subject matter experts in the legal domain. They partner with data scientists, data engineers, and product managers who are building cutting edge machine learning solutions with legal data. DDE Experts provide annotation, evaluation, and feedback to their partners which are critical to the development of these solutions.

DDE Expert II has a good understanding of best practices and is able to execute on projects and initiatives with limited oversight from others. Individuals in this role will create intermediate level insights and recommendations using their expertise in the legal domain. They will provide support to DDE team members and begin to lead DDE efforts with intermediate complexity.

Scope and Key Responsibilities

  • Execute best practices in the creation and maintenance of training data and relevance ratings
  • Provide support to more senior DDE Experts
  • Participate in presentations to internal stakeholders
  • Advocate for the creation of ethical, bias-free training data

Technical Skills

Domain and Industry Skills
  • Understands basic issues within the legal industry
  • Performs advanced legal analysis

  • Has a basic understanding of the technologies related to the assignments or projects
  • Stays current on emerging technologies that impact their assignments or projects

Data Analysis, Training Data, and Ratings
  • Supports the creation, curation, and maintenance of high-quality training data and test sets
  • Provides accurate data analysis and relevance ratings according to best practices

Project Management and Agile Methodologies
  • Has moderate experience with agile methodologies or management of small-scale projects with support from more senior DDE Experts

Required Academic Background
  • Juris Doctor (JD)

Preferred Professional Experience
  • 2+ years of professional legal experience
  • Basic understanding of machine learning and natural language processing technologies
  • Proficient in using Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, or other similar programs
  • Background in working with or understanding of agile and lean methodologies
