Data Manager - Volunteers of America National Services

Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) is a national leader in providing care and housing for seniors. In the United States today, we are one of the largest nonprofit providers of affordable senior housing and we are a leading nonprofit provider of skilled nursing care and assisted living for seniors.

The Data Manager will collect, analyze and apply data to our daily operations to improve efficiency and quality of data, operate data collection and analytical software, and manage the VOANS Investment Central environment (V.I.C.E.) database. VICE is the central repository for information on the Volunteers of America Real Estate portfolio. Before the organization can identify opportunities to improve its properties, data needs to be gathered and analyzed to determine the portfolio's performance. The Data Manager will also assist in the implementation of a new property management software across the VOANS Housing portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities:

Data Management

  • Drive an understanding and adherence to the principles of data quality management including data lineage, and business definitions;
  • Identify and correct defects in data converted from legacy database to populate VICE, support standardization of data for all VOANS Housing departments, and maintain data integrity;
  • Collaborate with interdepartmental teams, stakeholders, and end-users to gather data discrepancy information and ensure database is properly populated;
  • Plan, direct, and perform system management and quality assurance, as needed;
  • Collaborate with vendors to plan, manage, and direct data validation efforts for projects;
  • Maintain data accuracy by analyzing data outputs to validate data quality and communicate gaps to the appropriate end-users;
  • Collect and analyze financial information about individual properties or the portfolio as a whole;
  • Serve as the point person for new information requests and reports needed from the corporate databases, and diligently track all of these requests and associated cost proposals for the Vice President of Asset Management;
  • Manage, mentor, and coach data analyst for various systems and establish best practices for them.

(Technical) Project Management
  • Work in close collaboration with vendor to manage and monitor the progress of MRI Affordable Housing system implementation tasks and activities;
  • Work in close collaboration with inter-departmental teams, stakeholders, portfolios, and end-users to ensure assigned activities are completed within projected timeframes;
  • Actively seek ways to streamline business processes to increase efficiencies and administer standardized processes, whenever possible;
  • Identify, manage, and monitor internal actions, risks and issues and ensure they are communicated accordingly to project team, stakeholders, sponsors and appropriate levels of management;
  • Consult with management and department leads to establish system strategy, business priorities and project missions, goals, tasks, and resource requirements;
  • Shepherd VOA's enterprise-wide VICE implementation;
  • Help develop training manuals and procedure documents for VICE and/or other technological systems utilized across the organization (i.e. MRI Affordable and Wegowise);
  • Coordinate and conduct trainings on VICE;
  • Work with management and department leads to implement change management plan and activities on applicable projects;
  • Assist Housing Technology Support Manager with the implementation and integration of new software.


Job Requirements

Experience and Minimum Qualifications
  1. A bachelor degree and 5-7 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in data and project management;
  2. Exceptional interpersonal skills to work with various groups and team members;
  3. Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally to meet assigned objectives;
  4. Sound and accurate judgment with an ability to support and explain reasoning for decisions;
  5. Include appropriate people in decision-making process; and ensure timely decisions are made;
  6. Ability to work flexible hours and travel is required;
  7. Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure with competing priorities;
  8. Ability to formulate judgments and report findings to management and executive leadership, as needed.
