BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist remote opportunity.

Position Title: Data Scientist

Location: Remote
Anticipated Start Date: ASAP

Pay Range: $70 to $75

Senior Analytics Engineer, Minecraft

  • Minecraft is one of the most popular video games of all time, with more than 200 million copies sold worldwide on PC, console, and mobile. Minecraft inspires people around the world to create together and has resulted in one of the most active and passionate player communities in history. We are looking for an Analytics Engineer to join the Minecraft data and analytics team and help us shape the future of Minecraft at Mojang Studios.

  • As an Analytics Engineer you will be responsible to design, build, and maintain the Minecraft Analytics Environment. You will focus on delivering solutions rather than technology to realize the value of our data assets. You will support initiatives to democratize data and unlock self-serve capabilities which empower new data consumers to efficiently leverage the data. To be successful, you must select, model, and prepare the best data for the solution; Utilize the data platform and cloud infrastructure to engineer the tools and technologies needed to source, process, and deliver the data; Collaborate with your Data Science colleagues and work directly with data consumers and stakeholders to understand their needs and evolve the Analytics Environment at the pace of the business to drive impactful outcomes.
    Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with data consumers and stakeholders to understand their data needs.
  • Identify and analyze multi-structured data from a variety of sources to select the most effective and accurate data which fulfills the analytics requirements.
  • Design data models, architect dataflows, and create technical requirements to deliver solutions.
  • Build and maintain automated data pipelines to source and transform data into clean, enriched, and optimized polyglot data models which can evolve with changing needs.
  • Use modern data engineering practices and frameworks to create scalable big data solutions for analytics and machine learning, while ensuring data quality.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation for the data models and analytics solutions.
  • Assist Users with data access tools and documentation to unlock the value of the analytics data.
  • Provide stewardship in the creation, collection, maintenance, and documentation of metadata.
  • Handle confidential information responsibly and correctly apply security and privacy policies.

    Qualifications:
  • 5+ years working as a data engineer or equivalent on large enterprise systems.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver who brings a creative and open mindset to each situation.
  • A proven track record building and optimizing big data pipelines for analytic solutions.
  • Data analysis skills to identify, select and prepare quality data for analytics use cases.
  • Experience building enterprise scale data pipelines on Cloud Data Platforms using Spark and Databricks for ETL/ELT, data products, or Machine Learning; Azure preferred.
  • API and application development experience for data access and analytics solutions.
  • Strong Python skills for data processing combined with a pythonic mindset. Proficient SQL.
  • Working knowledge handling logs or event streaming data sources.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps and DataOps including feature planning, version control, multi-environment, CI/CD, data-modeling, automation, governance, and continuous improvement.
  • Video game domain knowledge is important - as an experienced Player or industry veteran
Candidate Requirements
  • Years of Experience Required: 3-5 years overall years of experience in the field.
  • The kind of experience is important - Solid Data engineer skills and experience but also comfortable working with the business, data profiling and analysis, experience with video games important, working with large volumes of streaming data. Data modeling skills and experience. Self-starter. Creative problem solver.
  • Degrees or certifications required: Software engineering or equivalent degree is required to be eligible for this role.
    Disqualifiers: Candidates with the below will not be eligible for the role -
  • Industry mismatch.
  • Data experience is not relevant.
  • * -Just using buzz words and not able to demonstrate how they can apply the skills or how they are involved in the experience they are mentioning, need concreate examples.
  • * -Lacks critical thinking skills.
Best vs. Average: Quality of work as related to the usability by our analysis and user. Critical thinker who has a solid track record building Big Data Pipelines. Strong python skills and pythonic mindset to create efficient and effective python code. Highly usable and effective data models. Good collaborator and communicator with project partners and stakeholders

Performance Indicators: Value and impact their data features and analytics solutions have for the data consumer. Average or better engineering velocity in the development of Analytics Environment Features.

Top 3 Hard Skills Required + Years of Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience with | Python.
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience with SQL.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience with Data modeling.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with Big data pipelines.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience with Cloud experience.
