Dean, College of Engineering Technology - Ferris State University

Ferris seeks a visionary Dean with the highest academic standards who will provide active and engaged leadership, have an unwavering commitment to faculty, staff, and students, and work to enhance the successes and highest outcomes of the College in key areas of pedagogy, scholarship, and research. Reporting to the Provost, Ferris seeks an accomplished leader who fosters innovation and collaboration in a shared governance environment. With input from the faculty, the Dean serves as the chief academic officer responsible for academic program development and review, faculty and staff recruitment and development, budget oversight and student relations. In cooperation with the Provost, the Dean is responsible for academic and administrative planning, fundraising and external/ alumni relations. The Dean is expected to show clarity in communication, treat students and colleagues with respect and compassion, and demonstrate the ability to work with a variety of people and issues. The ideal candidate will have an earned terminal degree (masters or higher) from an accredited program in an area represented in or closely aligned with the College of Engineering Technology or a doctorate in Management (Business Administration, Project or Engineering will be considered provided the candidate has a bachelors or masters from an accredited program in an area represented in or closely aligned with the College of Engineering Technology.) Preferred Dean candidates will have three or more years of full-time industry employment in a technical field related to a College of Engineering Technology discipline and three or more years full-time experience in higher education leadership as a department chair or higher. Preferred candidates should also have demonstrated success in working well with faculty, administration, and students and as a passion for working with student learners, along with a commitment to diversity. A track-record of scholarship and contributions at the national level is highly desired. The College of Engineering Technology enrolls 1,600 students in four Schools, including the College of Automotive and Heavy Equipment; the College of Built Environment; the College of Design and Manufacturing; and the College of Engineering and Computing Technology. The College's mission is to prepare graduates who have met its high academic standards for the current and future professional, industrial, and business needs of the state, the nation, and the world.
