CALSTART is seeking a Deputy Director of Bus Technology Development to lead a portfolio of projects that advance and demonstrate zero emission technology solutions for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. In this role you will secure funding for vehicle development and demonstration projects and engage key stakeholders such as fleets, manufacturers, suppliers, and government entities. This position will manage projects from initiation to closing and supervise project management staff. Additionally, you will perform industry research and synthesize results, and develop new company expertise areas (e.g. fleet infrastructure deployment plans and recommendations, and marine initiative development).

The Deputy Director will:

  • Manage a technical project portfolio of bus development and bus infrastructure projects: Direct management of individual projects; Research and development of new expertise that can be applied to project work
  • Assign and supervise a technical staff on project work
  • Business development including: Stakeholder engagement; Proposal development and submissions' Strategic planning
  • Perform operational strategy for CALSTART's Bus Initiative

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other Technology related field
  • A history of success leading complex projects for organizations
  • Three years of experience working with grant, incentive, or public procurement processes
  • Experience with zero emission bus deployments
  • 7 years of experience working in or supporting the transportation sector
  • Familiarity with battery-electric and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric vehicles and charging industry
  • Project management best practices tools and software, technical modeling/analysis tools developed by Department of Energy or similar organizations
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, or other Science related field
  • PMP, Project Management Certification
  • Experience with long-term strategic planning for fleet electrification
  • Experience in operational planning preferably related to Zero Emission Bus fleets
  • Experience working with utilities including applications for incentive and make ready programs
  • Understanding of general policy, program, and stakeholder landscape framing electric school bus and transit bus adoption
