Join Caterpillar Inc. as a Development Research Technician and play a pivotal role in our ongoing pursuit of excellence. You'll collaborate closely with our team of engineers, contributing to investigations on current and future products, components, materials, and processes across various settings, including laboratory and field environments.
Under the mentorship of Build Engineers, you'll receive clear objectives and procedural guidelines for machine work and evaluations, empowering you to provide comprehensive support to the seamless execution of assessments. Your responsibilities will encompass building prototype machines, operating test equipment, conducting investigations as directed, and meticulously analyzing and summarizing data.
You'll leverage the support of our dedicated personnel as needed, ensuring the efficiency and accuracy of your work. Your meticulous attention to detail will be reflected in the precise documentation of evaluation results, utilizing appropriate tools such as curves, charts, sketches, and photographs.

What You Will Do:
As a Development Research Technician 2, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting our engineering efforts by:
- Conducting comprehensive needs analysis and initiating innovative ideas to address emerging challenges.
- Evaluating the performance of new products and processes, contributing valuable insights to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency.
- Effectively communicating evaluation results to customers, team members, and other business units, ensuring transparency and alignment across all stakeholders.
- Collaborating with our engineering team to contribute to the design and development of cutting-edge products and processes.
- Performing essential maintenance tasks on both products and processes, ensuring their continued reliability and performance excellence.
You can anticipate direct involvement with machine and components, working in diverse setting such as laboratories, fields, shops, and proving grounds. Your role will involve hands-on observations and testing of products or components, providing invaluable data for further analysis and refinement.
Continuous learning is fundamental to success in this role, with opportunities to expand your expertise through hands-on experience and staying updated in technological advancements. What You Have (Basic Qualifications): - Candidates must have progressive machine assembly experience.
- Demonstrated experience with applications of technical practices is highly desirable, facilitating seamless integration into our engineering initiatives.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with team members, ensuring clear and concise dissemination of information and fostering collaboration within the organization.
- Eagerness to engage in continuous learning and development, embracing opportunities to expand knowledge and expertise in support of Caterpillar's goals and objectives.
Top Candidates Will Have: - Metal fabrication skills (welding/hot work).
- Experience working with engineers on projects.
- Machine teardown experience.
