Job Description

The Director, Diversity and Equitable Practices develops and manages organization-wide inclusion/belonging programs, professional development/training, and employee engagement initiatives prioritizing the best employee experience.

Reporting to the Vice President, People and Culture, the Director, Diversity and Equitable Practices will work towards fostering a world-class, inclusive employee engagement culture that enhances the values and mission of The WNET Group.

The Director, Diversity and Equitable Practices will also oversee employee relations, providing advice and support to managers on complex workplace issues. Responsibilities Include:

Culture, Inclusion and Engagement:

  • Partner with Senior Director, Workforce Planning to implement strategies to attract, hire and retain a dynamic and diverse workforce (e.g. recruitment, onboarding, performance management, DEI training, talent retention strategies);
  • Develop, implement, and support ongoing education, training and employee engagement programs aimed at strengthening a growth mindset, inclusive behaviors and promoting equitable development opportunities for staff at all levels;
  • Lead the company's engagement survey, activate participation, proactively analyze data and trends;
  • Oversee college internship program and WNET's Ideation Academy, an early career fellowship program for staff interested in public media;
  • Proactively identify partnership opportunities that align with our mission and cultivate a people-centric work environment (e.g., Emma Bowen Foundation, DeEtta Jones & Associates);
  • Partner cross the organization to promote inclusion and belonging; Regularly communicate internal and external activities, events, and progress, measuring success;

Employee Relations:
  • Investigate complex and sensitive investigations to address/remedy employee issues and complaints;
  • Provide guidance/recommendations on employee corrective actions and preparation of performance improvement plans (PIP's); Resolve workplace issues in a way that promotes a fair, equitable, and inclusive workplace;
  • Establish and lead Bias Incident Reporting Protocol; track and report incidents on a monthly basis.

Reporting and Metrics:
  • Work closely with the HRIS team to develop an employee experience dashboard (e.g., hires, promotions, attrition);
  • Identify the metrics and processes that will help us measure progress and accountability related to inclusion and engagement;
  • Partner with the VP, People and Culture and Senior Director, Workforce Planning on the continual refinement and strategy around culture and employee engagement;
  • Compile data, prepare and publish WNET's Annual Diversity Report.

Qualified candidates will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and will have strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities. Additional qualifications include:
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience with a focus on employee engagement, employee relations, conflict resolution, employee experience or other related HR disciplines;
  • Demonstrated understanding of inclusion, diversity, belonging, and/or equity principles and Human Resources;
  • Experience in a media and content production preferred;
  • Problem solver with the ability to measure progress against goals;
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, and the ability to motivate and influence others.

Salary ranges are based on benchmarked nonprofit and industry related data provided by an outside consulting firm and are commensurate with skills and experience. The hiring salary range for this position is $128,000 - $135,000. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
