Reports to: Senior Vice President, Human Resources

Job Description:

Reporting to the SVP, HR (with access to the CEO and other members of the Management Committee), the Director, Diversity & Inclusion will hold a brand new and exciting role at Domtar that will empower the leader to be a key strategic business partner to the organization in the areas of diversity and inclusion. In addition to driving the overall strategy and objectives of Domtar's D&I efforts, this role will partner with Domtar's current D&I council to execute and navigate our long-term D&I roadmap in alignment with the business and senior-level leadership. This role will be critical in partnering with our business units, HR business partners, and L&D to embed, refine and champion D&I projects, policies, and programs throughout the organization to ensure an inclusive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Lead Domtar's overall D&I strategy through program, policy and project management focused on creating solutions with meaningful and tangible forward-thinking results.
  • Collaborate, partner and influence change management within senior leadership, business units, cross-functional peers, and HR partners. Work with all levels of the organization (including, but not limited to, our mill sites) in order to embed D&I into the company culture at the appropriate pace, fostering a respectful, inclusive and diverse workplace.
  • Act as/become a D&I subject matter leader and consultant to the business by contributing perspective and guidance on current D&I trends, insights, and data.
  • In partnership with the business units, senior leadership and HR, the leader shall be responsible to design, launch and execute programs aligned to our D&I council roadmap and business plans by identifying needs, securing resources, and prioritizing work. This includes, but not limited to: internal and external compliance; D&I literacy; education and awareness; D&I data and reporting; and in the overall employee, customer & supplier experience, etc.
  • Advise / consult with HR to update diversity and inclusion policies and procedures, and/or embed D&I best practices within existing policies and procedures.
  • Develop appropriate D&I metrics and plans for tracking strategic data to inspire action and drive outcomes.
  • In collaboration with L&D, Talent and Talent Acquisition, provide subject matter leadership and partnership in the development and implementation of D&I training and internal programs across sites to encourage diverse candidate pipelines, hiring and succession planning.
  • Work with Talent to prepare applicable Affirmative Action and EEO required reports.

  • Experience identifying issues and creating roadmaps to solutions
  • Experience communicating with and building relationships with cross-functional partners and senior leadership teams
  • Proven track record of influencing, developing, and empowering employees across multiple locations
  • Demonstrates commitment to driving business success through diverse talent, inclusive work environments, and engaging company cultures
Required Education/Professional Experience:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to motivate and influence senior leadership, stakeholders and peer groups
  • 8-10 years of experience in D&I, human resources, T&OD, and/or Learning work, preferably within the manufacturing environment; and/or 8-10 years of experience in program design and management and/or project management, leadership and coordination
  • Strong awareness of current events and industry trends related to D&I
  • Experience in facilitation or public speaking, a strong communicator
  • Experience partnering or working within a Talent and Learning & Development team
  • Proficiency with Data, LMS, HR and Talent analytic systems and reporting
  • Strong analytic and data interpretation skills, with the ability to turn data, trends and current events into strategy
Preferred Education/Professional Experience:
  • Has experience in developing or managing Affirmative Action and EEO policies, procedures and compliance metrics
  • Has experience managing a wide range of diversity and inclusion metrics
