At AstraZeneca, we have a bold ambition to one day eliminate cancer as a cause of death. We are seeking an Internal Communications Director to join us and help bring our Oncology ambition and strategy to life through communications that inspire the Oncology R&D community.

In this role, you will help build employee understanding of, and belief in, the Oncology R&D strategy and engage employees in shaping Oncology R&D's culture through high profile internal communications programmes, such as town halls and our signature Global Science Days at our strategic R&D centres.

You will work closely with the BioPharmaceuticals R&D internal communications team to support a unified R&D function that actively collaborates and shares best practices across therapy areas in support of breakthrough science and innovation.

You must be comfortable providing advice and guidance on internal communications matters and coaching executives and senior leaders to deliver effective communications. Excellent writing, project management, planning, and multi-channel communications experience (particularly digital) is essential, with a sound Pharma or scientific background. You will be required to demonstrate exemplary personal judgment, initiative, and collaborative skills while working as part of a close-knit, high-performing, and flexible team.

Agility to multi-task, manage competing priorities and to work at pace are pre-requisite skills, and creative thinking to drive and deliver our ambitious aspirations is essential.

You will be a core member of the Oncology R&D Communications team while collaborating with other teams across AstraZeneca, in particular the Oncology Corporate and Internal Communications team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of Oncology R&D internal engagement events (e.g. town halls, senior leader calls, seminars) including content development, audience polling, production, scheduling.
  • Partner with the BioPharmaceuticals R&D internal communications team to unite the R&D function and seek out opportunities to elevate the work of Oncology across R&D, e.g. co-leading at the Global Science Days.
  • Lead development and delivery of Oncology R&D internal communications activities, including strategic, employee, leader and change communications.
  • Partner with scientists in Oncology R&D to produce engaging content that brings our strategy to life and captures the impact of Oncology work.
  • Measurement of effectiveness of communication approaches, provision of analysis and recommendations to drive continuous improvements.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of experience in a related field.
  • Established track record of delivering impactful, content rich internal communications programmes across multiple channels and stakeholders with demonstrable measures of success.
  • Proven experience of working in a fast-paced global internal communications team or similar corporate communications environment.
  • Understanding of and ability to translate science.
  • Sound judgement combined with good interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong social and digital skills and knowledge of technology options.
  • Manage conflicting priorities, stakeholder and colleague expectations and deliver consistently high-quality outputs.
  • High level of integrity, able to handle confidential information.
  • Proactive with high levels of self-motivation and personal accountability, bringing enthusiasm and energy to team, peer group and tasks.
