SUMMARY:

Spider Management Company ("Spider Management" or "Spider") is the investment office for the University of Richmond and a select group of other endowments and foundations. Through a unique outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) model, Spider Management has approximately $6 billion in assets under management, representing $3.3 billion from the University of Richmond and $2.8 billion from over 25 other non-profits including colleges & universities, independent schools, community foundations, and cultural institutions. Spider Management is a dynamic and fast-paced investment management firm, investing a single portfolio across public equity, absolute return (hedge funds, credit, lower correlation strategies), private equity (venture capital and buyout), real assets (real estate and natural resources), and fixed income strategies.

The Director of Investor Relations is a strategic management position with responsibility for serving Spider's current investors, growing the business with select new partners, and helping to shape the firm's strategic direction. The Director will lead all efforts related to investor reporting, board meetings, relationship building, client service, communications, marketing, branding, compliance, and finance. The successful candidate will be a strong leader and communicator, investment savvy, process and service-oriented, analytical, and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and significant client-facing experience. The Director will lead the four-person Investor Relations team, be a key member and contributor to Spider's senior management team and work closely with members of the Investment and Operations teams

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Investor Relations will lead all efforts related to serving the needs of Spider's outside investors.

Investor Relations, Client Service, and Marketing

  • Serve as primary point of contact to all external investors, ensuring investors' needs are met with the highest level of service and attention.
  • Attend and deliver presentations at investors' quarterly Board/Investment committee meetings.
  • Oversee development of presentations for investors' Board/Investment Committee that effectively communicate performance drivers, key portfolio themes, and relevant macro/market events.
  • Manage the development of monthly and quarterly investor reports, including writing cover letters and performance commentaries.
  • Respond to investor questions and inquiries related to performance, portfolio positioning, tax, audit, partnership documents, and meeting preparation.
  • Participate in internal investment team meetings and maintain deep understanding of portfolio to proficiently communicate investment strategy and performance to investors.
  • Proactively cultivate potential new client relationships and complete RFPs for new business.
  • Play leadership role in the firm's efforts and communications regarding responsible investing.
  • Proactively identify and execute ways to improve client service, processes, design, and effectiveness of communications.Develop and maintain strong relationships with key investor constituents, i.e., Board and Investment Committee members, CFOs, Executive Directors and OCIO search consultants.

Branding & Public Relations
  • Identify and create thought leadership pieces on investment and endowment management topics.
  • Attend and/or speak at conferences regarding Spider's strategy and OCIO offering.
  • Oversee external website to enhancement functionality and visibility of Spider's work to current and prospective investors.
  • Oversee development of annual reports for University of Richmond endowment and outside Spider Management partners.

Leadership
  • Lead four-person Investor Relations team.
  • Play important role helping to shape the firm's strategic direction as part of the senior management team.

Event Planning
  • Oversee the management, planning, and coordination of annual meeting for investors; identify improvements to agendas, platform, and speakers.

Collaboration Across Internal Teams
  • Brief and/or coach Investment team members to ensure appropriate preparation/messaging for all investor meetings.
  • Work with Operations team to verify and ensure accurate information is presented to investors.
  • Work closely with Chief Compliance Officer to ensure all investor reports and communications are in compliance with Spider Managements' Compliance Manual.
  • Assist in all aspects of legal documentation review and submission for new investors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Relevant investment experience necessary to develop a thorough understanding of Spider's investment strategy, asset classes, and underlying investments.
  • Microsoft Office, with advanced expertise in PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Knowledge of SEC compliance requirements, particularly related to marketing and investor relations.
  • CRM/database software experience.
  • Strong presentation skills, including excellent oral and written communication.
  • Excellent planning skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with investors on all asset classes and underlying investments.
  • Strong ability to develop high profile, influential and collaborative relationships across teams, functions and layers of Spider Management.
  • Ability to exercise highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the investment management industry preferred.
  • Investor relations/client service/financial industry experience preferred.

WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
