Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Director of the Counseling and Personal Development Center. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Associate Dean for Community Standards and Wellness. The Office of Counseling and Personal Development administers brief counseling services to actively enrolled students; as well as provides crisis intervention, and educational programming regarding student mental health.

This position requires leadership and clinical duties in high-paced mental health service organization in higher education. The Counseling and Personal Development Center (CPDC) delivers holistic mental health services to the Allegheny College student campus community through brief individual and group counseling, crisis support, outreach programming, consultation, and coordination of care for mild-moderate mental health and personal development concerns. The Director will be responsible for day-to-day and long-term decision-making, vision and mission of the center, strategic planning, budget management, supervision and management of employees, and overall functioning of the CPDC. This individual provides professional expertise and consultation across Student Life and the larger campus community regarding trends in mental health affecting students. This individual is responsible for being the primary back-up for 24/7 crisis services through Protocol and must be able to work flexible hours as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for CPDC administrative tasks and role assignments.
  • Responsible for assuming back-up for Protocol 24/7 line and assigning to other clinicians as needed (may require some nights and weekends responses)
  • Responsible for short-term and long-term decisions and goals for CPDC vision, mission, policies, procedures, and function.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, management, and ongoing supervision for CPDC staff.
  • Develop and administer protocols and procedures in keeping with current best-practices for college counseling centers and the context of Allegheny College.
  • Approves and monitors budget, expenditures, and contracts for the CPDC office.
  • Collaborates with various faculty departments, administrators, staff, organizations, and departments to support students and the college's strategic goals.
  • Collects, assesses, and reports on CPDC utilization rates, effectiveness, and student learning outcomes
  • All other administrative duties for CPDC that may not be listed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Doctorate Degree in counseling or related field preferred.
  • Licensure (LPC, LMFT, or LCSW) in Pennsylvania.
  • 5+ years' experience working in collegiate mental health
  • 2+ years of experience in providing clinical supervision
  • Experience in mental health and/or higher education leadership.
  • Ability to think about concepts of diversity, inclusion and intercultural relations.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of identity development, gender and gender non-conformist philosophy, and concepts of intersectionality, social justice and civic engagement;
  • Experience in crisis and risk management and overseeing the resolution of complex mental health issues.
  • Ability to collaborate with various departments and stakeholders.
  • Awareness and ability to apply ethical decision making models based on applicable laws and professional codes of ethics.
