Position Summary:

This is a unique product reliability role allowing you to make a difference in a dynamic medical device space. This role seeks to balance excellent collaboration with R&D and Operations, proven product design reliability expertise and knowledge of QMS in a fast paced high-volume, high-reliability consumer medical market.

Position includes people leadership, while working cross-functionally with the functions involved in Product Research and Development, Design Transfer, Manufacturing, and Design Change.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and champion product reliability design practices in collaboration with cross-functional teams to achieve customer satisfaction and lower total cost of goods.
  • Defines and specifies the implementation of high reliability design principles, methods and practices to achieve high-reliability medical devices that meet the corporate objectives, and conformance to governing regulations.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum 15+ years' experience in high volume medical device design or a Master's degree and 10+ years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 7+ years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Reliability Engineering certification preferred, and high-volume medical device injection molding and materials experience.
  • Access to experts in the science, materials and manufacturing of high-volume medical devices

Travel Required:
  • 25 to 50%

Functional Description

Develops, implements and maintains technical quality assurance and control systems and activities. Defines and specifies the implementation of standards, methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision, accuracy and reliability of company products. Participates in the reviewing of engineering designs to contribute quality requirements and considerations. Assists product support areas in gathering and analyzing data. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

  • Viewed as a subject matter expert within specific area.
  • Reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.
  • Understands relevant business strategies and impact on the functional area.

Scope

  • Participates in establishing strategic plans and objectives.
  • Provides high-level guidance and support to employees and other managers.
  • Regularly interacts with executives and/or external parties on matters effecting the function.
  • Oversees policies and procedures for immediate function.
  • Recognized as a functional leader within the organization.

Judgement

  • Works on abstract issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company.
  • Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
  • Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional or company operations.

Management

  • Able to operate in complex global environment.
  • Manages the activities of a functional area and/or external service providers.
  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 15+ years of industry experience.
  • 9+ years of successful management experience in relevant industry.
