We are currently recruiting for aDirector, Shoppers Marketingbased in Oak Brook, IL.
The Director, Shoppers Marketing is responsible for negotiating sales incentives, co-op and marketing development funds (MDF) with vendors on behalf of ReaderLink and its customers. They are accountable for ensuring accurate accounting, collection, reporting, and analysis of vendor sales incentive, co-op, and MDF programs. The position will interact extensively with the Marketing, Sales, and Accounting groups in order to use funds to maximize promotional activity and drive sales and to ensure proper controls are established surrounding the accounting and timely collections of earned co-op and MDF.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize access to and use of vendor co-op and marketing funds.
  • Negotiate terms with vendors for use of co-op, MDF, and sales incentives on behalf of both ReaderLink and its customers.
  • Is familiar with supplier co-op/MDF procedures and understands how to work within various sets of rules and regulations to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Communication of vendor marketing fund status to internal team and to vendor partners.
  • Maintain vendor strategy, competitive knowledge, and relationship.
  • Negotiate vendor terms for the development of promotional items, i.e., promotional corrugated for in-store displays, signage, and other collateral.
  • Purchase and manage the inventory and distribution of promotional items across company distribution centers, including corrugated POP displays.
  • Participate with the ReaderLink Marketing, Sales, Vendors, and Customers in strategic meetings to maximize promotional support opportunities throughout the year.
  • Responsible for company co-op and promotional budgets.
  • Responsible for timely Proof of Performance (POP) and Return on Investment (ROI) reporting.
  • Lead and manage a team with the responsibility to:
    • Track vendor marketing commitments.
    • Manage co-op, rebates, or MDF including:
      • Learn and follow vendor funding (co-op, MDF, and additional) requirements, procedures, and deadlines for each vendor and ensure vendor requirements are followed so that funds are maximized.
      • Accurately track vendor marketing fund usage so that there is always a clear departmental picture of vendor funding, both committed and available.
      • Learn, use, and manage vendor portals as required.
      • Obtain pre-approvals for marketing funds.
      • Submit claims and/or provide invoices to vendors for activity and track payments.
    • Process invoices and track spending for the marketing department.
  • Support planning and execution of trade shows and events as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Need:
  • Ability to work as a team member and lead a cross-functional team.
  • Bachelor's Degree or comparable professional experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of marketing and/or sales experience, preferably in the area of vendor rebates or co-op/MDF management.
  • Experience working in finance/accounting or similar preferred.
  • Very strong analytical skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite highly valued.
  • Must demonstrate good time-management skills.
  • Must possess strong planning, organizational, and execution skills.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to speak with all levels of the organization and outside partners.
  • Familiarity with publishing industry terms beneficial.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Periodic travel to customers, vendors, trade shows, and conferences.
