SUMMARY

Arcticom, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Diving Instructor for the Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command, Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training and Support Services. This position will provide all instructor support necessary to execute the required services to augment military personnel in direct and indirect support of the training and development of enlisted SEAL candidates, as specified in the basic contract and as defined at the task order level.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct and teach SEAL Maritime operations, maritime insertion and extraction methods, and underwater navigation techniques.
  • Be physically able to conduct small boat operations at sea, in varied sea states for durations up to six hours. Contractor will not operate small boats.
  • Serve as the lead instructor for the administration of the diving specific remediation curriculum to those students in the roll-back remediation program. The remediation instruction shall encompass monitoring and implement progress initiatives in the conduct of practical pool dives under the direction of a certified diving supervisor.
  • Repair and maintain open and closed circuit drive rigs. Conduct minor operator-level repair and maintenance of Diver Oxygen and Air systems and administrative duties
  • Administer physical and mental development training of students by providing instruction in the areas of diving, weapons, demolitions, and small unit tactics.
  • Lead physical training evolutions to develop discipline and endurance.
  • Lead physical training evolutions lasting up to one hour.
  • Lead physical training sessions of up to one hour consisting of upper and lower body calisthenics.
  • Provide guidance in the student remediation processes to rehabilitate performance deficiencies in the areas of running, swimming, and the obstacle course, or other areas as necessary.
  • Assist in development of curriculum and training materials related to the scope of training topics.
  • Review and create evolution guidelines, preparing and conducting operational risk management, evaluating classroom instruction, and reviewing instructor training records.
  • Assist with the design of new courses or update existing courses which develop basic physical proficiency in core skills.
  • Ability to recognize and address student-learning problems, communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and plan and organize work.
  • Training Safety Duties:
    • Adhere to evolution guidelines in the conduct of various training evolutions.
    • Training Phase Administrative Functions:
  • Perform administrative functions of the assigned phase. Including but not limited to:
    • Access Personal Identification Information (PII) and potentially Personal Health Information (PHI) subject to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPPA) requirements and safeguard it accordingly.
    • Track student performance as they progress through the SEAL training pipeline.
    • Record the statistical progression of students in the appropriate database.
    • Coordinate with the Student Management Office for the compilation of data into the Naval Special Warfare Center's Student Management Systems (SMS) in order to identify trends to improve the training pipeline.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO's)

  • Instructors shall have, at a minimum, eight (8) years of NSW SEAL Operator Experience.
  • Possess, at a minimum, a Naval Special Warfare certified open and closed circuit diver certification.
  • As assigned, shall meet qualification standards as a Water Rescue Craft Operator as outlined in NAVSPECWARCENINST 3500.4. Applicable training to be provided by the Government to the assigned Instructor.
  • Experience for qualifications must be in the last 20 years.
  • CPR, Automated external defibrillator (AED) and First Aid qualified prior to assuming duties

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Possess proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Secret Clearance
  • Must be task oriented, self-motivated and can multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and work as team member.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with leadership
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide directions.

NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Shall be required to perform physical testing in accordance with established guidelines set forth in OPNAVINST Physical Readiness Program.
  • Physical Training Coaches are required to meet minimum PST standards and maintain a sufficient fitness level to pass on a yearly basis.
  • This position requires the ability to maneuver around and see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and contractors. Visual acuity to review written documentation and ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS
  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position requires working indoors, outdoors and in a pool. Must be able to maintain health in hot and cold conditions with exposure to the elements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
  • This position may be subject to random drug and or alcohol testing on an unannounced basis.
  • As a condition of employment, be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check (Secret) results to obtain access to military base.
