Core Drill Rig Operator

The Core Drill Rig Operator will work as a liaison between quality control and Engineering. This position will assist in collecting core sample data, supporting our Engineering team in the development of both short and long term mine plans. This individual will collect and compile data in a manner that reflects an accurate description of the reserve. They will operate various pieces of equipment, such as but not limited to; drill rigs, maintenance vehicles, skid steers and other heavy equipment.

Duties:

  • Assist with drilling activities necessary to obtain material samples and data for subsurface investigations.
  • Assist in equipment maintenance/repair to maintain proper working conditions.
    • Take pride in equipment and maintain a high level of cleanliness.
  • Assist in the transportation of the drill rig and support equipment to the desired location.
    • Includes loading and unloading of the drill rig and supporting equipment
  • Assist with location selection, setup, and disassembly of the drill rig.
  • Assist with operational drilling functions: site mobilization; raise/lower mast; installation/removal of casing, drill rods, augers, and core barrels
  • Assist with transporting water to and from the drilling location
  • Assist with extracting, packaging, and logging of core samples
    • Provide accurate geological drill logs of collected core samples
  • Assist in managing drill tool inventory, support equipment, and MSHA/maintenance records
  • Document daily tasks; perform equipment checklists and workplace inspections
  • Perform full drilling responsibilities with an assistant on a limited basis
  • Perform general site clean up
  • Assist in performing ERI (Electrical Resistivity Inversion) data collection with the Engineering Team.
  • Assist with processing core data for lab analysis; transportation, crushing, and analyzing
  • Ability to substitute for quality control technicians throughout Indiana.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Current INDOT certification preferred
  • CDL Preferred; Ability to obtain CDL- Required
  • MSHA certified part 46 preferred
  • Welding experience preferred
  • Ability to operate equipment, including drills, drilling locating systems, backhoes, excavators, and trenchers, is preferred.
  • Mathematical and computer skills required
  • Problem solving skills required.
  • Self-motivated and team oriented
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Overnight travel may be required, up to but not limited to 50% overnight stay
  • Must have a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle
Physical Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to continuously stand or walk on level or uneven ground.
  • Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairways, and incline catwalks.
  • Must have the ability to bend, crouch, and/or kneel at the waist or knees.
  • Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, shovel, or carry materials of all shapes and sizes weighing 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside the majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
