Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Building Services, the Electrical Supervisor oversees maintenance and repair of the university's electrical power distribution systems and electrical equipment, makes minor elevator repairs and supervises members of the electrical department.

Job Summary:

• Maintains and repairs the electrical power distribution system serving all campus buildings and equipment.
• Plans, organizes and supervises layout, and installation of electrical conduits.
• Ensures all connections are made using properly sized breakers, conduit and wiring.
• Plans, organizes and supervises installation of all manner of electrical equipment.
• Hires, supervises, evaluates and coordinates the activities of electrical department staff.
• Trains staff in proper diagnostic techniques for locating and repairing defects in electrical equipment/systems.
• Plans and schedules preventative maintenance, ensuring parts, supplies and other materials are available as needed.
• Checks newly installed equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Supervises service, maintenance and minor repair of campus elevators and ensures proper methods are used to help people off elevators in emergency situations.
• Supervises set up/operation of special sound and lighting systems for campus functions, including concerts, sports events, plays and guest speakers.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma, at least four years of experience as a professional electrician, and valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary:

Knowledge of best practices and techniques used in electrical work. Good working knowledge of the National Electric Code and local codes. Ability to follow complex technical instructions and directions; read blueprints and drawings; supervise the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff and students; work in all types of weather; and work nights and weekends in emergency situations as necessary.
