Job Description

Analysis Engineer responsible to perform analysis/simulation to support Propulsion Systems Conv/ HEV/ PHEV/ E-REV/ BEV New Products in the area of vehicle energy consumption (EV range/ fuel economy), and performance. Work closely with Propulsion system engineers, Technical Specialist, Propulsion Virtual Performance Integration Managers and Technical Fellows to evaluate advanced propulsion system concepts that will meet program objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead analysis/simulation to define Propulsion system {HEV /PHEV / E-REV / BEV / Conventional} system and corresponding component requirements to meet VTS & regulatory targets
  • Conduct analysis/simulation to quantify effects of advanced propulsion technologies {engine, hybridization, electrification} on vehicle energy consumption, performance and drivability for various propulsion system configurations
  • Support product teams and leadership in defining next generation propulsion systems with analytical evaluation of the proposed architectures & technologies
  • Work collaboratively with propulsion integration engineers and component hardware design teams to develop balanced requirements
  • Lead small team of global analysis engineers to ensure analysis plan deliverables meet required Virtual Analysis Plan timing
  • Lead the energy consumption, performance analysis to support system project deliverables and conduct trade studies to evaluate design alternatives (quick studies)
  • Verification, correlation and development of plant models with abstract controls for existing and advanced propulsion architectures. (i.e. internal combustion engine, transmission, electric motor, inverter, batteries, thermal systems, control strategies, etc.)
  • Present analytical results to project managers, senior management and assistant/chief engineers
  • Development of new Standard of Work procedures & analytical methodologies

Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics
  • 3+ years experience in propulsion energy
  • Engineering development experience with conventional vehicles, HEVs, PHEVs, E-REVs and/or BEVs
  • Proficient in MATLAB and Simulink capability
  • Experience with analysis/simulation tools, such as: AMEsim, GT Suite, Unified Model or other industry standard energy consumption platforms analysis/modeling/simulation/testing
  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering analysis techniques
  • Understanding of global emission regulations
  • Deep knowledge of conventional/electrification technologies impacting energy consumption, performance and drive quality
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Understanding and application of engineering theory and principles of operation for mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, and fundamental understanding of electric motors, power electronics and advanced battery technology
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Lead small engineering teams
  • Independent thinking and strong teamwork skills are needed to succeed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. or PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in vehicle level testing, development, calibration pertaining to energy consumption and performance
  • Experience with optimization theories and methodologies
  • Experience with system analysis and applying systems engineering methods
  • Experience with electric motors and/or power electronics
  • Experience in powertrain and/or vehicle controls
  • Powertrain/vehicle calibration experience
  • Experience in analysis and controls from the design to calibration phase
  • DFSS Black / Master Black Belt Certification
  • Knowledge of applied optimization and design of experiments
